.22-243 Middlestead Groups

I took my new .22-243 Middlestead out to sight her in. It's got a 1 in 8" twist 26" Lilja barrel, Mod 700 action, McMillan stock, Jewell trigger, 6X24 Sightron scope!

Today I shot 69 gr. Sierra MK over 41 gr. of 4831. Should be getting about 3150 fps or so.

Didn't do to bad considering the wind was gusting first this way then that 0 to 15 mph I'd say! Plus this is the first time I ever shot her.

adjust your seating depth and you should be able to tighten your groups up a bit--LOL joking of course.

That's what I like to see. Now tell these naysayers you can do it allllll day long. Not bad for your first groups!!

I don't know if I can but that dang rifle can do it allllll day long!!

I'm sure after I get her broke in and I get used to her and catch a less windy day she'll do better.

The first three shots in both those groups were in one hole I shot fast and the heat mirage may've thrown me out just a little. It was only about 40 degrees today and the wind was gusting back and forth from 2 to 15 mph. Coming from behind and from both sides!

Hey bda I truly believe this rifle will handle just about anything I throw in there. Of course she may like some better than others scary to think about that huh!

is this the first one youve built up? i love the stock. what contour barrel is that? looks brushed but i cant really tell.

Yea BDA it's brushed it don't shine to brite. I've got a custom built 308 but it ain't quite the rifle that this one is. It's sub moa but this baby is a sub 1/4 moa I believe.

It's a Lilja light varmint 8" twist 26" barrel with gig finish. The stock is a McMillan Marksman pillars.

good stuff... had it been a canjar trigger, id put it on par with the best! LOL but hey, jewells arent junk by any means. beautiful for sure. most guys dont appreciate a build like that. truely your gun, made the way you want it. i love customs like that and am addicted to them in a bad way! for your second one, you did wonderful.

What's wrong with you. Don't you know you can't shoot groups like that until you've spent THOUSANDS of dollars on your rifle and Fired AT LEAST 5000 rounds....and in some wind too!! what is this world coming to (LOL)

Great looking gun and fantastic groups.... now that's what I'm talking about. Don't let anyone tell ya you can't do it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey tcman in my defence I'm 52 and I have spent thousands of dollars and several thousands of rounds (prolly 20,000 at least)!LOL!

I'm not new to this game.

If farily sure a bunch of the folks on the other thread "real world accuracy" will figure you had to clean the powder burns off of those targets before you posted them.

I am not jealous of many men, but I can now add you, or at least your rifle to that list.

Well Houston,

It pays to be sceptical but I've got nothing to prove.

I don't care if anyone believes me or not! LOL!

I'm just tickled to death the rifle will do what my friend who sold it to me said it would.

Those two groups are the only two groups I tried to shoot. The targets had a few other shots in them but they were sight in shots most of them were within an inch! LOL!

I realy do think it's capable of straight one hole groups. The best one there is 1/4 inch center to center.

And to think I started to sell that rifle before I even shot it. I was considering getting a 300 WM built by the same guy. But he kind of talked me out of it. He told me he could make it a switch barrel for 6.5 x 284 and I could use the same stock, action, and trigger for 2 rifles. The jury is still out on that one though.

Hey ya want to really get jealous take a look over at sniper's hide and check out some of their 300 yd groups look better than mine!

Those are some fine looking groups. What is that saying? "Only accurate guns are interesting". By the looks of it, that is one interesting gun. Excellent job. Paint

Yea paint,

I do believe that saying was coined by Col. Townsend Whelan of 35 Whelan fame. He's the one who necked the 30-06 up to 35 caliber to create the 35 Whelan.

I have a couple of his books.

He was so right though only super accurate rifles are interesting to me. Thanks for the Kudus but they should really go to Truman Wilson of Delta, Co. He's the genius who put that baby together. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Chuck,
You ain't fooling any of us, we know shot those groups at 10 feet. Not only are you dishonest, disrespectful, and decieving, you beat up my 8 year old handicapped cousin on the street last week.

Lol, just funning ya man. That is one fine shooting and looking rifle and I think I can safetly say we would all be proud to call it our own. I expect it be downfall of many varmints and I expect to hear the stories here on PM.

Thanks for sharing the rifle and story with us. As a poor college student I sure appreciate it.
Take care and best wishes
Matt

That all depends. Houston if it can be helped I'm sure he can. But if you want to send him the rifle and about $1400.00 (guesstimation) he can put a new barrel, trigger, and stock on the action. Then I'll guarantee you it'll shoot like that.

My neighbor sent him a Mod. 700 action and about $1450.00 to have this one built! It's the fifth or sixth one Truman has built for our little group of guys.

Everyone of them will drive tacks literally. If they don't Mr. Wilson won't send them to ya!

What Rick did was just send him the whole gun and that way he's able to just send it back to him. Without having to go through a FFL dealer.

I know if I want another one built he'll get my business for sure. He's not the only fellow out there that build an accurate rifle. But I know he won't settle for mediocrity!

Plus you can get any caliber ya want so long as it fits the action.

Nice shootin. My P.dog partner sports that very same cartridge. Time after time he's made shots weigh beyond most would even consider. This cartridge is a true long ranger and extremely accurate. Personally I'll sell the rifle if I cannot cover five shots with a dime at one hundred yards. I say this as an avid reloader and amature gunsmith. Most rifles require tweeking and patience. " This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. I must master my rifle as I must master my own life." Nice thread in the face of those non-shooters on " The real world accuracy thread " Accurate shooting is a discipline many have not embraced.

SEMPER-FI, Keepem out of the wire!
