22/243 Reloading info

Well Mr.Bates it’s been a while. I have run thru a few thousand 22 Creedmoor rounds (3rd barrel) which is similar so I bet just using Hodgdon 22 Creedmoor data would get you started off safe.
I did play with the 22/243 in an AR for about a minute and I used 43gr of H4831 with the 75gr AMAX and that’s a warm load in the 22 Creedmoor.
What powder you looking to use?

It has been a few days hasn’t it?

I was hoping to use some H4350 and I have some Hybrid 100 that should work. I tried some Reloader 17 and I just couldn’t get it to group like it should. Of course I have Varget and some others. Mostly Hodgdon powders.

There is no reloading data anywhere that I have found. What little info I have ever received was word of mouth.

I know lots of folks use H4350 in the 22 Creedmoor but for me it’s a little too fast burning and pressures spiked quick.
I think powders between H4831 to H1000 burn rate are where you will find best performance. Reloder 26 would be magic if you can find it.
I would say Staball 6.5 is about the fastest burn rate I would try and if you need to interpolate data from 22 Creedmoor I have tried just about every powder out there in it so can get you close since the case capacity is pretty close.

Ok thanks for the info!

Finally found someone shooting a 22/243 that was using a powder that was still available.
The only powder I had been using up to this point was Hybrid 100 V.
The powder this guy was using was 4831SC. So I loaded up several rounds with the same bullets I had been using before and went to the range.
My rifle seemed to like 80 grain A Max the best.
5 shots at 100.

Never did use the heavier bullets in mine. 60gr was as heavy as I went, I’d imagine those 80gr are serious!
I have plenty of other 22 caliber rifles that I shoot the lighter bullets in already.
Built this one hoping to shoot a heavier bullet.
It took a lot combinations before I found the one that worked for this rifle.

I'll bet a steak dinner that VV N-160 will give you what you are looking for. I use it in both of my .22 CM's. It's very slightly faster that RL 26, and will equal or better the accuracy of any other powder I've tested.

I have never used any of the VV powders before. I need to burn up some of the powders I have a cabinet full of before I venture off in other brands.

I use RL26 with 80gr ELD-M in my 224 Terminator, what my gunsmith calls his version of a 22-243 Improved, and it is sending those 80's down range at 3650. RL26 is one of those powders that produces very good velocities but as you already know, is very hard to find so unless you already have some you're chances of finding any are slim.

Another powder that will work well for you and much easier to find would be IMR 7828ssc. It probably won't give you quite the same velocities as RL26 but should be real close.
