22-250 and W760

Went to buy some IMR-4895, IMR-3031, H-380, or W748 (in that order) and they didn't have any of it!!! Only powder they had that would work for my application was some W760.

Anybody using W760 w/50g bullets?? Whats your velocity and accuracy like??

I loaded up 3 loads of 3 shots each, 50g VMAX, 41.5, 42, and 42.5 of W760, in Win cases and WLR primers.

According to QL, 42.5g is about MAX, and should produce around 3850fps from a 22" bbl. Only problem I see with it is that it doesn't seem to be a very clean burning powder as it only burns something like 94-95%.

Was hoping to get out today and shoot them, but the wind is a steady 30-35mph and gusts of 50. So no group shooting today. Tomorrows wind is supposed to die down to around 20-25mph. Then I'll have to wait a week to shoot them, back to work...

I have shot W760 Ball Powder thru all of my 22-250 for many years. I shoot 38 grains with a 52 gr Sierra BTBRM bullet. No reason to ever change with the accuracy and groups with this load in my rifles.

Our local Bi Mart has a good selection of powders. Their web site shows that they have a store in Hermiston. Have you tried them?

I used to shoot IMR 4895 in my 22-250's but recently switched to IMR 4320 and have great results.

H414 is the same powder, according to the Hodgdon guys... I think you'll have to call them on the phone to get them to confirm that, but their web data shows identical velocities at the same charges between the two powders.

Bi-mart is the place I usually go to. Thats where I went and they are about out of ALL powder. Few weeks/months ago it was primers and bullets. Always something...

+1 on that! Hornady's manual at one time showed 41 gr. of W-760 w/55 gr.... most guns won't like that!! But, as previously mentioned, work your way up, as you should, and its a super powder for that application.

Dan is correct, H414 and WW 760 ARE the same powder!
HS7 and WW 571 are also the same for you shotgunners.
HS 6 and WW 540 are NOT the same!
Many moons ago I worked for Winchester (OLIN).

Got a chance to shoot after work yesterday. I tried 50g vmax, W760 at 41.5g, 42g, and 42.5g. 41.5g shot the best of the bunch doing 4 shots including the CBS into .5". The 42 and 42.5g load are definately getting close to pushing it in this rifle. Extraction was pretty hard and case head marks starting on 42g. Didn't get a chance to crono, but they should be moving around 3800fps. Also shot my dads 40g vmax w/imr-4895 load. His ruger target shoots this load about .25" at 100 yards, looks like my browning doesn't mind it either. Those 3 shots are about .275"
