22-250 bullets for coyotes

I just recently picked up a 22-250 to use as my coyote gun and am now looking for a good load to use. I am looking for a bullet that is fur friendly but also gonna do a good job at putting me down out to 300-400 yards. I've reloaded for years so have no problem changing things up to make any bullet work in this gun just need something to save the pelts. So what are y'all using. I'm not biased to any one manufacturer either. I'll shoot anything just looking for some advice from guys that know. Thanks

My go to bullet for my 22-250 is the Hornady 55gr soft point. I get good results with this bullet out to 600 yards on yotes and fox. If I do my part and miss big bones the exit is usually no bigger than a quarter. If I can't find the Hornady bullets I also had good results with the Remington 55gr soft point but the Hornady's group a little tighter for my rifles. I also use these bullets in my AR.

I have had some luck with the 52 gr sierra matchking being fur friendly out of the 22-250 (loaded pretty slow) and 223. The 55 gr soft point seems to be real popular with the fur saving guys like R15 was talking about.

Either of those will certainly do a good job of anchoring them up but I think you missed the part about the OP looking for something "fur friendly" and neither of those is what I'd put on my fur friendly list.

The SMK's like the one shelton573 suggested would not only shoot very well but the MatchKings have a pretty thick jacket and their .22cal bullets have a very small meplat so they'll tend to just spear right through and not do a great deal of damage but the downside will be the opposite of what's good about them and because they tend to not open up much, they could have a bit of a delayed action as a kill bullet. I don't think I'd use Vmax bullets if you looking for something hide friendly but maybe a heavier Nosler Ballistic Tip. They open up but in my experience with the BT's they don't expand quite as fast as the Vmax or Blitzkings. If you've got enough twist to shoot the new tipped 69gr Matchking that could be one I'd try but I'm going to bet you probably don't have enough twist to stabilize them.

What's the twist rate of your 22-250?

X2! That'd be a very good place to start.

Gun is a Browning A-Bolt II with a 22" 1:14" twist barrel. Gonna lose some speed but that's ok with me. Heard good things about Sierra matchking. Shot a couple yotes with hornaday sp with my .223 and put some good sized holes in em but the 22-250 should be a lot faster. Thanks for all the input so far. There is just too much to chose from.

Funny how I put up my ow coyotes and have no problem with them. Mine are with a 22-250 savage 110 1-14 twist

Most likely you have a 1-14 Twist. Your best bet is the 52 grain SMK. Powders can range from Benchmark, H380, 8208, IMR 6064, and some more. This will depend upon your gun and the velocities.

My 1-14 22-250 likes 50 gr Varminators at .379 groups. Also like 53 SMK similar groups. Recently tried the Blitzkings and Vmax but not as tight. My 22-250 loves the flat base bullets.

When I had a 22-250 the 1365's @ 3750fps were king and did a great job at turning the lights off for any coyote it touched. Now with my 22-250ai the 1365's are still king @4200fps. Its lights out with that bullet and chest shots are usually tiny tiny holes. Like what was mentioned before. Shoot them and dont look back. Its been tried and true and just flat out shoot amazing.
