22-250 Factory Ammo

Looking at buying a 22-250 for coyote hunting and need some expert advice on what factory ammo to buy. I was looking at the Hornady V-max rounds. Good choice or not?? If so what gr should I be looking at?
Thanks

If you are saving fur, bullet selection may be an issue, if not the 50, 55 or 60 grain Vmax would be excellent in the 22-250.

55gr V-max best I ever shot, but your gun might like something different. So I would try a few and see what it likes.

A lot of factory ammo is good, you don't have to shoot only Vmax loaded rounds.

That said, factory rounds with bullets that are more fur-friendly in the 40-50 grain range may be best for saving fur, good bullets are:

Sierra 40 gr.HP (federal premium loaded these years ago), Hornady 40 and 50 grains SP; Winchester 45 grains, Remington w/ the w0 and 50. I also like the Speer 52 gr. HP but none of the factories seem to load that one. Perhaps you can locate a local handloader...

Good Hunting!

The Win white box 45 seem to shoot pretty well in most everything. A little dirty as they foul the gun faster for me. The Win supreme ballistic tip 50 and the Rem accutip 50 both perform well for us. Last for close calling the 55 sp is always dependable.

The only factory 250 ammo I have shot in recent years has been the 55gr V-Max and it shot pretty well out of my 700VLS.

The Winchesters shoot VERY accurate out of my Savage 12FV in 22-250.

I have used the 55 grn V-max's and wasn't impressed. I found they would consistently splash on a shoulder shot (or upper front leg if you want to be specific)

Others on this site have reported different results with them. I don't know if they shoot less coyotes then me, or if they are more picky about their shots or what the deal is.

I have seen 50 and 55 grn soft points work well on a number of different coyotes, from a number of different guns. The Nosler ballistic tips have worked well for me this year, and for others on this board, Federal loads these in factory ammo.

Choosing a factory round is just as much what works in your rifle, and performs well on game. We can suggest bullets that have done their job on coyotes, but no on knows what round your rifle will like.

If it were me, I would grab a couple boxes of 50-55grn soft points from different manufacturers, some Nosler BT's and Seirra 55grn HP's from federal, and give them all a try to see what your rifle will group the best. I have shot and see a number of coyotes shot with these bullets and they all work well.
