i have a rem 700 vssf and am looking for a load useing benchmark powder and win primers. what bullet would you recomend. the barrel is 1-14 so i was thinking like a 50grainer? thanks lee i will be going on my first prairie dog shoot soon cant wait.

One of my buddys' pet loads is 36.0gr of benchmark with a win. LR primer and a 50gr ballistic tip. It shoots half inch groups out of his m1000 eclipse. With his 26" barrel he's getting 3950fps.

It is a great powder in many cartridges. I use it in .223, 22-250, 220 swift and .260 AI. There are others I just haven't gotten to yet. My neighbor also uses it in his .308.

I tried benchmark in the 22-250 didn't do to well for me, and also the speeds did not run where I wanted, I think the powder is a bit too fast a burn rate for the 250

Benchmark works great in the 22 250 with 50 gr. and lighter bullets. I'm using it with 50 V-MAX's and it is getting 3900 fps and some change with great accuracy. My Remington also has a 1 in 14 twist. Your mileage may differ. They have the load on the Hodgdon site.

Benchmark is THE powder in my 22-250. I tested most of the powders used in loading for this cartridge, and Benchmark was best, followed closely by Varget.
32.6 grains of Benchmark using 55 grain Sierra HPBT's with Federal 210M primers produced 1/4" groups at 100 yards for three shots. Varget was close with 3/8" groups with the same bullets and primers.
Bullets were seated .010 off the lands, and case necks were outside neck turned. Loads were assembled with Wilson seaters. I used a 36x scope for developing the loads, with a Hart Front Rest and a Bald Eagle rear bag.

when I had a 22-250 I used alot of benchmark powder
I don't remember the exact loads so I won't comment on them
I do distinctly recall that I was getting some pretty small groups with it
It wasn't the fastest powder but that was not my concern I was most interested in accuracy
my bullet of choice was the 50 gr ct's or bt's
and always a win primer

Always run 55 gr bullets in my 250 and Swift for PD's. 250 usually shoots about anything well. IMR 4064 and 3031 have worked well for me.
