22-250 shooters...

What is the muzzle blast like of this particular round, particularly in 26 inch barrels? How do you feel it compares to, say, a 223 Remington? I use hearing protection...just curious for a couple reasons.

Thanks!

Do hear it go off, but the sweet music is the swack of the hollow point on the coyotes chest. Needless to say at the range wear ear protection no mater which one you are shooting.

+1!

I sold my 22-250's because I just didn't like the excessive muzzle blast.
The worst offender was a Browning Micro Medallion, which I think had a 20" barrel.
Guess I'm just gettin' soft.....

I have a savage model 10 predator and do not notice the muzzle blast at all. Yes it's louder than a 223, but so what. I guarantee you the coyote on the receiving end of it dosen't notice the difference. I will say that with the 40g stuff though, the flame out the end of the barrel in low light is much more than when I shoot the 55's.

Very little bark in comparison to it's bite, especially in the 300-400 Yrd's ranges it shines. Down and out! At this point in the season it's 22-250 (9)- Coyotes (0).

LOUD, you Talk about loud stand next to my Savage116 7mm Remmag with muzzle brake. Now that's Loud! Hearing protection a must. but standing beside it. the muzzle blast about knocks the wind out of you. But accurate and they don't get up.

You want LOUD!!! One of the large makers of AR15 type rifles uses the same range that I do for the finale testing of the rifles that are ready to ship to buyers all over the world. They bring as many as 20 at a time to test fire, ranging from 223 to various NATO rounds. In an enclosed shelter those darn AR's almost bowl a person over, and I am as far away from them as possible. And yes they finish each test with a burst of full auto, a real test of your ear protection. I would have to say that my 22-250 sounds like a cap gun after that. Heck I have to check to make sure that I fired a round.

Relative to what. I ve shot at a local range next to a 50 bmg. With a brake there is no hearing protection known to man that can help you here/hear. You can't have all that horsepower without a little bark. But hey tennis and golf are both really quiet.

Just one question...what is your main goal for using the rifle/caliber? I have to wear dual ear protection because my hearing is going south in my old age for I'm trying to save what I have left. But I shoot everything from a 30-06 all the way down to .22 because I enjoy target/benchrest shooting. Even a .223 has a distinctive loud muzzle blast. Even with a muzzle break, you'll have a nice loud crisp sound with less kick. So figure out what it is you want and go from there. Just remember, a 22-250 is basically a neckdown 30 Cal casing that shoots a .224 bullet.
