22-250 primer

I know that there is a lot of you out there that load for 22-250.
Do you use magnum primers, bench rest, or just regular large rifle primers?

What about 220 Swift?

You use large rifle for both the 22/250 and the swift; bench rest are perhaps more consistent for bench rest shooting but you will not recover the cost difference in hunting loads.

A magnum primer is recommended for a large quantity of relatively slow burning powder in very cold weather e.g. 338 Winchester Mag with 72 grains of IMR 4831 at 0 degrees F.

No need for a magnum primer in the Swift or 22/250 even in cold weather...maybe in a 25/06 though in cold weather.

Do you own a reloading manual..?? I ask as this info should be in one....

Yeah I own 3 or 4 manuals. I have been just using regular large rifle primers. But I have read in a couple different places where people were using magnum rifle primers and I wanted to know if this was a common theme, and if I should be trying out some magnum primers or not. Sounds like there is no reason to bother.

I use CCI 200 primers for my 22-250. I have used WLR primers but they have never given me the accuracy as the CCI's have.

It may have more to do with the type of powder you are using. Mag primers are recommended for ball type powders, and large case usage.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.

I use WLR standard primers for most the cartridges I load for. Only exception is my .338 Win Mag where I use WLR Mag primers. I've tried others but I always seem the settle on the Winchesters.
