22-250 scope suggestion

Hey there,

I just recently picked up a Ruger American 22-250 I know it's not the most high dollar gun out there but it shoots true. I'm trying to find some different choices for an optic for this gun but I need a little influencing. Main purpose is for yotes and prairie dogs probably up to 4-500ish. Let me know what's worked well for you.

Burris has a ballistic mildot reticle that matches very well for the 22-250.
I have it on my Black Diamond 6-24x50.

But they also offer it on their Signature and 6.5-20x50 Fullfield.
You should be able to get either of them for the low $300s.

If you want a good scope for little money look no further than here: http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Multi-X-R...+banner+6-18x50

No, it aint no high end Sightron or Leupold or Zeiss but for a decent scope for low $100's it is well worth if. I watched a hunting buddy (after I made fun of his scope, naturally!) tag prairie dogs out past 500 yards with a .223 with one of those sitting on top of it.

The price has not changed in over a dozen years and if you read the reviews on those that own them you can see why I like it so much. Great scope for the money.

I appreciate your suggestions everyone! @CS Tactical, I was looking at the Vortex HSLR in a 6-20x50 but everywhere around here they are out of stock and trying for the military discount doesn't really knock it down much lower than store pricing. I think I'm gonna go with the Burris Fullfield E1 in a 6.5-20x50. Now my only issue I have is, what size rings I need. The bases are .2187" or 5.555mm. Can anyone assist me in how to measure it out so I can go check it out. Also I'm looking at the Burris Signature 1" Zee Rings Weaver-style, just not sure about height but I guess what it looks like my only options are Med or High with that style/model. Any suggestions?

I am about to put a new Leupold VX-1 4-12x40 (I sent in for a CDS) on a 22-250. I am pretty impressed with it for the price. It would match a Ruger American well, IMO....

I have had a 6-18 BDC reticle scope.. I almost never zoom in above 12 or 14, even for PDs

I would suggest something that goes up to 16 and would suggest the Bullet drop reticles, it's handy when you know that at 300 you don't have to change anything and just put the circle on the coyote and shoot.

I like the Nikon's and Vortex scopes for the price.

Just my suggestions.. Good luck.

I am really liking the Leupolds and the Redfield Revolution scopes in the 4-12x40 classes for my varmint and predator rifles. Which one depends on how much you want to spend and or quality of optics you want to put on it.

That magnification range seems to be a good range for me for punching paper and decent varmint and predator shooting for as far out as I am likely to get and willing to take a shot at one around here in west central and north-western WI

Something that'll crank down to 6X for coyotes. And goes to at least 20X, 24X is better, for small targets.....if you've got that much power you'll use it.

if you are looking for a great scope for your 22-250, look for a weaver grand slam 6-20x40 with varminter reticle. LOOK THRU ONE AND YOU WILL BE PLEASED. GREAT CLARITY AND GLASS!

There is NOTHING wrong with taking a long hard look at an optic that is twice the price of your firearm... absolutely nothing, I can see if your on a budget or can't afford it, but that still doesn't mean, We're "crazy" if we roll with it.

I like to remind people when asked that you can have a $1000 rifle and a $100 scope. It may work, but it may make it shoot like a $100 rifle. You could also have a $1000 scope and a $100 rifle. It may make that rifle shoot like a $1000 rifle. Moral of the story, you're better off shooting a medium grade rifle and a better scope.

Its funny to watch people blow their wad on the rifle and buy the cheapest pos scope they can find to put ontop of it.

No, it should be about quality. Decisions which are money based rarely are the best ones. That said, you don't have to spend a couple grand on a scope to get a good one, we all could agree on that.

Now, the position from a self proclaimed glass whore as myself... I don't spend tons of cash on all of my scopes but If its going to be on a rifle that I will shoot a lot then I spend it. Those high end scopes over the 2k mark are incredible and if your shooting it all the time then its the best decision you will make.

Yep.
You can't hit it if you can't see it.

You are right whatever your budget allows.
