22-250 users. How many seat out to lands

One must seat the bullet equal in depth to outside dimension of said bullet, .224" as a minimum seating in coal. In my 22-250/1:14 twist I have no bullets available to reach the lands and maintain the integrety mentioned as my twist rate will probably not stabilize bullets beyond 55g.

Jim that is what I'm finding but most bullets will allow you to go toward the lands even if it's .010 further than col so or people going as close as possible or staying with col

I load the time tested 38grn of H380 with a 52grn bullet. I seat to 2.350. Results average .710 groups.

Hornady Superformance shoots .250 groups (average) and they measure 2.330 out of the box.

Savage 10 26" Varmint bbl 1 in 12".

I have owned a dozen or more 22/250's over the years, 700s, 788's, and one howa. All of them shot best near the lands or just barely off the lands by .003.

Keep the copper out of the barrel, 22/250's are very sensitive to copper fouling.

If you can't touch the lands with pointy bullets, then go to the 55g Sierra Semi point bullet which is as accurate as Berger bullets. 63g Sierra will stabalize in a 14 twist, and IMR 4350 with win primers is your ticket. The semi point bullets will really put a smile on your face in how accurate they are and how they knock the day lights out a coyote.

I found a one-holer load first time out, and it was just book COL - 2.350. Hornady loads their 35 V-MAX 22 hornet loads shorter also (1.715 versus book COL for the hornet of 1.725). I found that 70NBT's also liked more hop in my 243, seating those at just 2.620. So I for one haven't found an across the board correlation between seating to the lands and best accuracy. I usually start with whatever the recommended COL is for any given bullet, vary my powder charges until I can shoot enough to declare a winner there - then go back with that same one consistent charge and vary my COL's, if necessary.

Loading for 2 Rem 22-250's and I can't get the bullet anywhere near the lands. In fact when I started loading for these guns I couldn't figure out why groups were 2" or better. Then someone else told me to try the recommended length. Groups are now 1/2".

I get clover leaf groups with my 700 going with 2.350,1 day desided to play around with seating depth and groups just opened up. So I stick to the 2.350

There is absolutely no basis for this statement other than its reconstituted from some handloading books. I have never followed it or believed it. If it actually made any sense how would you load bullets that are boattails ? Measured from the heel or the bearing surface ?

In my old shot out Savage 22-250 I kept loading bullets out to the lands long after the throat had seen its best days. Basically just enough to hold the bullet straight and not easily pull from the case neck. In my .204 I have less than .180" bullet in the neck with no troubles.
