22-250 with 62 gr Nosler HP bullet at 3500 FPS?

I load 55 gr Nosler ballistic tips in my 22-250 that are going 3950 fps. I've only shot a handful of coyotes with that gun and two had more than a small entrance hole. One was a head shot and it made a mess. The other was a sitting coyote facing me at about 150 yards. Bullet entered upper mid chest and big exit hole along the spine between the shoulders. I don't think I have a large enough sample size to give a strong opinion but be prepared for some pelt damage. I think there are more fur friendly combinations out there.

I load 55 gr Nosler ballistic tips in my 6mm mag that are going 4200 fps.
About 2/3 the time there is a LOT of fur damage.
I also do 60 gr Noslers in my 22/250 always some fur damage.

You guys got me worried now. I bought a Ruger 22-250 this year and settled on a 55 gr. HP Boat tail loaded with 35 grains of Varget. Hoping it will be fur friendly. It sounds like now I may have made a mistake. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot a coyote with it yet, so I'm not sure how it's going to do. I am planning a week and a half hunt, out west the end of the month, so I'll find out. I'm bringing the 223 Tika with just in case the 22-250 is too much on the fur.
Any of you use a load similar to mine, that have shot coyotes with it? If so how much damage on the hide. I've always heard that a hollow point blows up inside and leaves no exit hole.

Seems pretty fast, my 50 noslers are chronoed just under 3800 and do ok with well placed shots or hits over 150 yards.

I’m guessing you will see fur damage on some and just entrance holes on others. My guess is your load on smaller coyotes and shots that hit “edges” have a high risk for fur damage. If you center punch a big coyote then I think you stand a good chance of no ext. This is just my guess based on shooting similar bullets. I’ve been surprised that fur damage is minimal >50% of the time with 80 gr 6 mm Nosler ballistic tips exiting barrel at 3400 FPS. I was expecting that load to cause big exit holes more often than not.

Shoot Berger 52 gr Target HPs with just a little more Varget. If you hit them where you should, very little damage. I love this bullet for coyotes. My fur buyer loves me using them too.

Thanks everyone for information! I will try it on a couple of coyotes since I loaded up 2 boxes and they group really well. I will let everyone know how it works out.

I shot 50 gr nbt out of my 22-250 at 3600+FPS 50 cent piece entrance. Sometimes small if no exit. Only problem is I hit a shoulder or rib to far back. Shot a pup straight on at 50 yards in September bullet went in and blew up when I skinned it the enters transfer and bruised the hide all around the ribcage That was really interesting. Shot Vmaxs before seemed sometimes they splashed at random instead of penetrating then blowing up.
