22-284 win

Maybe give some bullet weights... or do you think someone will give all the world's data on it??

Well catshooter I was looking for some information from anyone who has used this round before and had some insight on it in all bullet weights. Have you run this round before? I haven't settled on a twist rate yet so I'm not sure what bullet weight I want to use, I was hoping to gain some wisdom from some wildcatters that have used this round. Not get a smart assed answer for trying to gain knowledge.

I think this would only make sense as a 7 twist with 90 gr Bergers. I don't see any huge advantage over a 220 Swift if you wanted to shoot lighter pills. There will be no barrel life, and few bullets that would hold up to pushing them that fast.

Just curious, what's the draw of the 22-284 over, say, a 22 CHetah or 22-243 if you have a real need for speed?

Well coyotejunkie , since I don't know what you want to shoot out of it, I'll give you this smart assed answer.

a 75gr bullet will run ~3500, from a 26 barrel, and that is with the case at 85% because powders slow enough will be hard to find. You might wind up using H-5010.

Barrel life will be in the 400 to 500 round range (you are not the first person to think this up - others have done it, and their results are the reason that it is not a popular cartridge)

There are better ways to do what you want.

Good luck.

There was a 22-284 reamer in a box of about 50 reamers we bought at a going out of business/retirement sale and seein how I have a straight 284 that I hunt just about everything with and is really a tack driver I was just curious about this caliber. There was also 22 Middlestead reamer in the box so I could build either one easily

You might want to use it as one of the reamers needed to make a 6mm-284. The 22-284 falls into the same category as a 17-250 IMO.

I believe DAA runs a 6-284, it should be a screamer too.

the 6mm-284 is one that is already in my to build pile of barrels to get chambered up this winter just have to make time to get out in the shop and get after it. So many guns to build so little time

Well I'll be the lone dissenter as a good buddy had a 22-284 built, he sent a Rem 700 action to Hart and had them put a long bull barrel on it. It's an absolutely devastating, laser beam trajectory, sweetest thing I've ever seen in a p-dog town. He runs it suppressed, and not sure of his loads off hand. But I watched (thru binoculars) a 100 yard p-dog blow up, and I flinched as I thought I was going to get splattered! Crazy accurate. He's had it maybe 10 years now, not sure of round count but it's lasting a lot longer than I thought.

Would I want one? Probably not I'd just AI a Swift or something, way easier than forming brass and turning all those necks down like he had to do.
