Hey all

A lady that I bought a couple of guns from last month during an estate sale called me over the weekend and told me that there was a gun that had been forgotten and was I interested in looking at. I went over and it was a Ruger Number 3 carbine. No loaded ammo, but 200 rounds of 454 Casull brass that was necked down to 22 caliber. They had been fireformed. Huh. Now what? I bought it ($100- why not?). She not sure if there are any dies for it but will look.

Anyway, was this ever a popular wildcat? Anyone have any idea where I can even find dies for this thing? Any load data out there? Looks like it be fun, but wont be as much so if I cant shoot it.

You should be able to get dies made. I'd try Wilson first.
Go over to Saubier.com. Those guys invent a new caliber almost daily.
Good luck with that one. I'll bet you get 100.00 worth of fun out of it even if you never fire a shot. Plus the action's worth more than you paid.

Keep us posted.

Get a chamber casting done CH4D Hornady or RCBS or most any of the high end die makers will make a set of loading dies get case form die as well. I think if you7 invest a bit of time and cash you will end up with a very rare wildcat

Well, to tell you the truth, now I dont know what I am going to do with it. And what is with this Number 3 Ruger? Is it sort of a poor mans's Number 1? They must not have been in production for very long. I sure dont remember them. Anyone know the original chamberings? Maybe I'm just better off trying to find a factory barrel for it.

They were actually made for quite a while and except for the lever not having the lock on them they are the same action. There are some stock differences, but they are a fine little rifle. They are out of production now and are becoming a collectors item.

Once again,,,,,,,,,,,,,Go over to Sauiber.com and ask about it . Lots of them build their beloved small calibers on single shot Rugers.
There's probably someone over there that will know all the calibers and in which years the #3's were made.
Putting an aftermarket barrel on it in a more useable caliber is probably not that big of a deal.
Check em out, I'm telling ya "they'll know" and probably be very helpfull.
