22 ARC has knocked my socks off!

So I just converted my 16” 223 to a 22 ARC and I am absolutely blown away how good this thing shoots. I bought a ballistic advantage 16” 22 ARC barrel in Black Friday for only $170 and was worried because it was the same barrel as my 223 which only shot 1.5 moa at best. I got to take the first few shots through this thing, about 35 rounds yesterday after a dove hunt. And was amazed that I was able to shoot a five shot group around .65”, the glory of modern calibers I suppose. With the high BC of the 62 grain ELD-VT and the factory v-match load being chrono’d around 3100 fps out of 16” barrels. This is all the performance I ever wanted out of this gun and more. My only complaint is the factory ammo is extremely gassy with this Turbo-K can, I think it might be time for a flowthrough can of some sort. Wish I took a picture of some of those groups.

You'll have to report back when you shot a yote. I'm hearing not so great things on the 62 grain ELD-VT bullet when it impacts. I've bought just about everything I need to build my first 22 ARC upper and I'm deciding on bullets to reload.

I built a 6 arc just like that with a 16" faxon/brownells barrel and it shoots very similar. I have found that 75's and 105" both shoot really well so far.

Shots trajectory wise need to be longer than 350 yards to see any performance advantage (less drop) over the factory 223 53gr vmax superformance ammo. And its cheaper.

If you reload, it all costs the same...
I don't know much, really anything about the 22arc, but I would bet it uses more powder, and unless you can make the brass out of something else, brass is probably quite pricey.

I don't think new cartridges are any better than old ones, the difference is in the barrel.

22 ARC can be made from 6.5 Grendel brass. Just run in through a 22 ARC die. The same cannot be said about the 6 ARC though..

I looked it up, 22arc brass from Midsouth on sale for 83 cents a piece. I'll stick with my 223, all the brass I could ever use is just laying on the ground.

6 ARC can be made from the 6.5 Grendel too, but you have to push the shoulders back, and trim the extra off the neck, about 50 thou if I remember right. I was into the 6 ARC right away, & brass & ammo were hard to come by. I found Lapua Grendel brass in stock & worked my magic.

It's like any other cartridge choice. For some the juice is worth the squeeze, for some it's not.

I don't think this cartridge was really designed for your average coyote caller shooting less than 200 yards. This cartridge shines for shooting long for caliber bullets at 400-700 yards from an ar15.

I went back and checked my data. I have a custom 223 bolt action thats throated so I can load long. I'm sending 75eldm's at 2750fps. The factory 22 arc out of a ruger american 20" barrel is averaging 2980fps and fits in an ar mag.

Just started my 22 ARC build now that ammo and brass seems available.

I went with a Ballistic Advantage 18" SS barrel and just received a 200-round case of the 88gr ELD-Match.

Look forward to getting my first coyote with the build.

I went with a 18” 1-8 twist Liberty barrel on my 22 ARC. Seems to wwant to shoot, but I got cut short when I had to leave for work again. Got a Garmin Xero delivered yesterday so I can get some data on the loads that are sitting in my load block waiting patiently. Hopefully something will shoot good tomorrow afternoon so I can throw the thermal on and head out tomorrow night.

Well, here’s the skinny on my setup. From the 18” barrel I got an average of 3250 fps with 32.0 gr of Leverevolution and the 62 gr ELD-VT. Not quite the velocity I was after, but it shoots quite nice on paper. Going to take it out in the morning, got home too late to zero the thermal, and see what transpires. Hopefully a big dog will come see what all the commotion is about. 😉

Is this a bolt gun or gas gun?
