I always love it when you guys say a 22lr can't be an effective coyote gun. Cracks me up. Now if effective means shooting a yote 100 yards with one then no, it's not. Know your range, know your gun and you can do anything the gun and you are capable of. I have seen a guy take coyotes with a 22lr up to 75 yards reliably. Guy was a good shot, are you? I have seen a guy take coyotes with a .22mag at around 120 or so foxes 150, reliably. Guy was a good shot, are you? If you're not, get yourself a shotgun and get a tight pattern with #4 shot and you will be money at 40 yards every time. If you can call them in close use your .22 or .22 mag. It can work. You've just got to know how to use it. You will minimize losses with a bigger gun of course. You can miss the mark and still get a good kill from shock and penetration..something like that anyways. .22lr doesn't penetrate like a 30 ought. obviously. The guy talking about the non hollowpoints sounds like he has a point that they should penetrate better. I dunno, if you're good with it, give it a shot at close range. If not, buy a bigger gun or use a shotgun and call'em in close. I've found the CCI Velocitors pack a nice punch, but I haven't tried it on a coyote. I have a .243 for that.     _v101
