22 mag

I tried 4 different brands of bullets today and the 30 grain V-Max shot the best by far. Of course its the one I have the fewest of. But just curious, at what yardage do most of you sight your 22 mags in at? If I use a 50yd zero approximately how low will I be at 100? I didn't have time or my spotting scope with me so I didn't shoot at 100. I know shooting will tell me the answers I'm looking for but just thought I'd ask.

In my Savage BRJ the Hornady 30gr Vmax is most consistent in accuracy. A close second is the CCI 30gr HP-V. I sight at 50yds and the drop is insignificant at 100. Something about the arc trajectory.

Off the shelf ammo is pretty thin around here. I ordered the ammo I was shooting today and didn't order any quantity to have ammo that don't perform. Now that I know what really shines I'll be looking.

My barrel was shortened a couple of inchs by the previous owner, why????, I have no idea but he killed the collector value if there was any. Still a cool little rifle. Do you folks run a suppresor on yours? I just looked at a Sparrow and it would work on the 22 mag, 17HMR and my 22LR. Got me to thinking again. I'd love to suppress my rimfires.

I shoot 40gr Win jacketed HPs. I believe I sight it in dead on at 100 but I just use it for.coyotes. I'll be sighting in everything in September for the season. I have a 22lr barrel for it that is on most of the year.

Both of mine are sighted zero at 100 yards. The difference at 25 & 50 is so small that it is not a factor, and anything over 100 yards is considered "out of range". Can I hit out past 100? Of course. But the energy is about gone by then so it's not considered.

I've got 3 .22Mags:
HK 300, shoots just about anything into inch groups. But likes modern 30gn bullets the best.
Savage A22 mag, Walnut stock and Jard 1 1/2# trigger. Likes CCI 50gn HP.
Just purchase and haven't shot yet BRNO ZKM 611.

The Winchester had the highest velocity @ 1910FPS according to the box but didn't produce the best groups. Fiocchi shot decent as did the CCI but groups really shined with the Hornady 30gr V-Max. Hopefully I can find some more and get dialed in at 100yds.

I would stay away from Fiocchi .22 mag ammo. Years ago I had a cherry HR 700 .22 mag. I was testing different mag ammo to see what shot the best. The Fiocchi .22 mag bullet is a half copper cup, the inside is shaped like a cone. The lead portion also shaped like a matching cone is pressed into the copper cup. I had a bullet separation where the copper cup lodged in the barrel. I was unaware of this and fired another round. The barrel bulged about 16.5" from the chamber. Fiocchi service was great, I had the gun re-barreled, sent them the bill, remaining bullets from the box and old barrel. It was so easy, I wondered if I wasn't the first. Anyways, I never shot Fiocchi .22 mag ammo after that, I have shot plenty of other Fiocchi ammo.

I have my H&K 300 sighted in at 100 yards using WW 40gr HP. I have shot coyotes out to 250 yards with it.
I have no problem shooting out to 200 yards.

I have tried about every round made for the .22 mag and must say winchester 40grHP's are hard to beat. Unlike the lighter bullets I have yet to lose a groundhog or beaver using the winchesters.

Zero at 50yards equals 1.2" low at at 100 yards. Zero at 100 yards poi at 50 yards will be .6-.7 inches high. I usually choose the 100 yard zero. Works well for prairie dogs.

Psycodog,
You will not regret running suppressed. I only regret waiting so long. I have a Mask and it works great on the 22 mag and 17hmr. What is your rifle?
