I found a model 1890 win. pump in 22 w.r.f. I don't know much about this round. Is it the same as the win.mag or long rifle? If not,is the ammo hard to get/expensive?

ROOSTER,
Ask the guys on www.rimfirecentral.com they might have more information for you.

It's a shame, but Winchester let the patent run out on the model 62 and 72 pump action rifles. These rifles were known as "gallery guns" for many years, due to their service at carnivals. A very reliable action.

Taurus picked up the patent on these rifles and are continuing to produce them as they were made by Winchester...they're doing a fine job of it. I own a Taurus model 72 in .22 mag. with a case hardened reciever, very nice wood and very good accuracy. I've shot a number of groundhogs with my rifle and it really ruins their day. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good hunting, Bowhunter57

I have that same rifle. It belonged to my grandfather, then my dad, then me. It will not feed or eject any other .22 rimfire ammo (my dad tried before he knew what he had) but it will make them go bang. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

.22 WRF ammo isn't too hard to find. Winchester produces a limited run of ammo every couple of years. If you can find some, stock up. I bought a case from Cabelas last year. You can often get it at gun shows - if you can stomach the ninjas, dragon slayers, and paramilitary nut jobs.

I can't remember what I paid for the ammo, but I don't think it was too bad.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the info.I've been looking for an old "gallery" style gun for a long time.I found this one and couldn't pass it up.I paid a little over 300 for it.The gun is in pretty good shape considering the age.I looked the serial number up in the Blue Book and found that it was made early in 1909. Thanks again.
