220 swift 60 gr bullet

Wanting to try the combo and wandering how you guys like it. I already have 40s covered with a 204. 55s in a 250, so was wanting to try the heavier bullet in the 220. Not really looking for speed. Tried the search and came up empty. So what are some good powders and which bullets do you like? I have H4350, H380, H414 and Varget on hand plus a few more. So what say you??

I did try some Hornady factory soft point 60 grain ammo in my Swift many years ago. They did not group as well as I would have liked but honestly do not remember too much more than that. A few years ago someone gave me a partial box of Hornady 60 bullets and I tried some again. I tried IMR 3031 and IMR 4064 and neither shot all that great. After I shot the box up I never tried them again.

My Swift then and now has a 1-14" twist. If it had a 1-12" or faster twist then it might have been a different story. But I shoot nothing bigger than prairie dogs with mine so 55 grain bullets or lighter is what I always shoot.

You know I was worried about the twist. I am really wanting 60 to have something a little different. I was thinking of 60 hp but was asking info before I spent the money on them. I had trouble with the 40s in the 204 until I switched to a TC with a 10 twist.

Sierra 60gr hp will stabiize in a 14 twist. Ive shot them in 3 22-250s. Im not sure about hornady 60gr hp but i believe they are a bit lo.ger than the sierra. Sierra's are a very accurate bullet and they flat out hammer coyotes and have been very easy on fur for me. I even put down 2 whitetail.

I have a 1-8 twist Swift that shoots 60 gr. bullets real nice but my other Swift with a 1-14 twist doesn't like them as well.

As the leade got longer in my Swift, I went to the 63g sierra with IMR 4350. Accuracy was great, speed was up there also.

I would expect great accuracy from H414/760/ AA2700 and IMR 4064.

Good luck

I was going to try the sierras. What do you guys think I should aim for I was thinking 34 3500. I may try for 3500 and then start looking for accuracy. Thanks for all the input guys.

I only chrono'd my loads from the one 24" 250 and im running them at 3450fps and its a fairly mild load.

i have shot 60 grain nosler solid base, balistic tip and partition out of a rem 700 22-250. no problem. also 60 horn sp and 60 horn hp, and 63 grain sierra. what rifle are you shooting? which bullet do you like? all of those (6 different 60 grainers) shot fine. ron

RL-15 worked extremely well for me with a 60gr Sierra HP, very accurate, not extremely fast only about 3500FPS, explosive on groundhogs.
