Just bought a new edition Hornady Loading Manual, does not list any 55 grain Z-max bullet data faster than 3500 fps. I would like to get up there around 3800 anyway. Where could I find some powder data for this bullet using this powder.

37 grains of IMR 3031 should give you right at 3800 fps, but use caution as it is a max load. I found 35 grains to be a wonderful all around load using 55 grain bullets. Been using it for over 30 years and still one of my favorites. Killed quite a few prairie dogs with it too when using the Nosler Ballistic Tip.

3,800 with a 55gr and IMR-3031 is really pushing it to the raggity edge. Hodgdon (who is the distributor of 3031) lists 35.2 grains as maximum load at 52,700 psia.

IMR-3031 is an accurate powder in the .220 Swift, but is on the fast burning side.

For a velocity of 3,800, better choices would be, IMR-4007ssc, or even IMR-4895.

The Krieger barrel on my Swift is a 1-14". I shoot mostly 50 grain bullets but sometimes 40 and 55 grain but never anything heavier than 55 grain. If I need a heavier bullet than that I use my .243 or perhaps my 25/06.

If I lived someplace where I was surrounded by prairie dogs towns (in other words, Heaven) then I think that I would like to have something like a 22/250 AI with a 1-8" twist barrel just for VLD bullets. But I only make it out to Wyoming once a year and so far my 1-14" twist guns have been just fine out to 700 yards so I'm good with them.

And if I wear out that Krieger some day I will likely install another 1-14" twist barrel on it, but would be OK with a 1-12" too for what I shoot.

I just bought a swift in a rem classic, so mine should be 1-14 too. Have any of you guys loaded any blc-2 in the swift? It's all i have.

What weight bullets do you want to use??

I have 52gr amaxs, 55 gr nos bt, and a few speer 50gr spitzers. I gathered those and the blc-2 to reload some 223's for a bdl i bought a few mths ago. That gun is mint, and i believe i'm going to let it go, as i don't think i can bring myself to [beeep] it up.
