Hello I am new to the forums here and was just curious who liked what between those two calibers I have both so just starting a friendly conversation.

22-250 is a workhorse and easy to load for. I've owned a couple and they're great rifles. Never owned a Swift, but I have heard that they can be hard on barrels over time.

Welcome to Predator Masters!!!!!

I own some of both calibers and I prefer the Swift over the 22/250.

I have one Swift that is a Remington 700 VS SF. Have owned it for several years and shot it lots! Still shoots as good as it ever did but I do not shoot hot loads in it. Don't know if that matters but I have not worn the barrel out yet.

Your "Friendly conversation" may likely turn into a war. LOL But, stories I've been told is the swift, in the early years, were pretty hard on barrels. Now, with much better steel, not so bad.

I love my 220 just because of the rareity of it around my location. I have heard of burning barrels out on older guns but these new barrels and new materials used in barrel making unless you are loading over green line or running a very hot load to shoot a competition with haha.

I went with the 250 becuase when i am out hunting and for some reason something happens and I need ammo, it's a lot easier to get 250 than 220.
I think that both are good, and both would be a good choice.

I also own both and enjoy them both - BOTH are rough on barrels, but not so that you could tell the difference - If I could only have one, I would take the .220 Swift in a heartbeat.

Plus there is the GDI factor that is always a rush. On a GDI scale of 1 to 10, the .220 Swift is a positive 13!!

And I NEVER buy factory ammo on the road!!

I own a 22-250 and think it's a decent cartridge. Reality is if I could have found a swift i'd have that instead.

Let's be real. If you're the poor soul standing in front of the gun it really is trivial I have a 250 and love it. If I had 220 Id love it too. Could have gotten away with a .223 around here but its what I decided on. Splitting hairs. Lol. Actually emulsifying rabbits.

Another .220 Swift fan. Got a Ruger M77V back in '74 or '75 when Bill Ruger decided to make a limited run of them and see if they would sell. Bought the first one that I ever laid eyes on. Set me back $180 too. Fair amount of change back then. Same as a months rent if I recall.

Not going to go into a long spiel this time about how much I love the Swift. Everyone that has been on this forum as long as I have knows that I do. There is just something about that old, that accurate and that....cool of a varmint round. To me, it's everything a varmint cartridge should be. Hard hitting, puts lots of bullets into tiny groups and did I mention that it's cool? Rather like I would rather be seen in public with Lauren Bacall on my arm than I would Miley Cyrus.

Is the .220 Swift still the king? Of course it is. It can get a big head of steam going in 80 years. I just might keep mine that long.

Buddy of mine has a slick 1976 Ruger m77 .220 swift. that thing is NICE. another buddy of mine shoots a .250 and i recently bought a .250. Based on the shots we take here(200 yds and in) i can't tell a difference between the two . im not too sure ballistic wis ethey are pretty close, think the swift shoots faster(someone correct me if i'm wrong). but based on just walking into the average sporting goods store to buy ammo, id go .250. if i was a reloader(and hope to be soon),i would probably go 220.

It is a great caliber, it is devastating on coyote at a distance. Seems to handle some wind a little to however I wouldn't shoot 500 yds in a 30 MPH wind and expect it hold it's own.

Another .220 Swift shooter here. I also have a Remington VSSF and it has killed many, many coyotes, rockchuck and even ground squirrels with it. Mine is set-up as a long-range coyote rifle for the open fields of NE California/Nevada.

I don't have a 22-250, but I imagine the coyote wouldn't know the difference when the bullet hits.
