Hi,
I am considering buying a 221 fireball... I have no experience with them and am just looking for something fun... Why not buy another gun??

Please give me your opinions on the Fireball and what you think about them. I already have 223's, 220's, 22-250's etc.. I just like the idea of the fireball.

Thanks guys...

I have been shooting the .221 for over 25 yrs and still love it. You can't find a more accurate round in the right firearm. My XP-100's will shoot as well as any rifle off a rest and the .221 is very potent. You can hand load them using 40gr bullets and they are not far behind the .223. Or, you can down load them to .22 Hornet status and they shoot well with about any combo you load them with.

Now that we finally have rifles, everyone can see how well they shoot. I have Rem's and CZ's in .221 and they are great. I would recommend getting a CZ version as they are really good. Low noise, low recoil, benchrest accuracy, easy to load for, low powder volume, and fun to shoot.

One of the best cals. around. I shoot several coyotes and prairie dogs with mine and love it. I can't believe that Remington screwed up that bad that they chambered a good round for a change.

I have one of the Remington Clasic fireballs in .221 - I bought it because of very good experence with one of their XP-100 pistols many years ago.

Great cartridge and more accurate than it has a right to be.

Don't want to hijack here -

Lonedog,
Are commercial loads readily available for this caliber? I have only seen one gun in my life that was a .221 (Remington classic) but the recent posts have me interested.

Yup... Remington has loaded this round as standard for some 30+ years.

Have a Cooper in 221FB. It is probably my favorite rifle. Accurate, fun to shoot and it sure raises heck with those prarrie poodles.

I'm sure glad to see alot of people interested in the fireball rifles.

I have a CZ 527 and like everyone else -just love it!!

Cabelas has ammo also from hunting shack ammo ,with 3 bullet weights 37 -42 -50ish.

I have killed many ,many ,pd's , crows ,jackrabbits ,coyotes with the little 221 FB .If you don't have one you're missing out !!!Mike

Welcome to the board SDM and CatShooter.

Rem has plenty of factory ammo and we now have two Rems and the CZ chambered for .221

I just picked up my CZ 527 in 221 fireball last weekend - I haven't shot it yet - but if it shoots as good as it looks!! I'm gonna love it!! I selected the 221 fireball mainly to use on varmints and coyotes. Ohio is very populated and it is hard to find places where you get a 200 yd shot - more like 100 yd shot - always have to figure what is behind the target if you miss? So I limit myself to the closer shots. With the low report of that round - that also appealed to me. I've followed the 221 threads for some time and I had read enough to decide on it.

Well, I didn't go the route of the Fireball, and it might've been a lot easier to do that. Hindsight is 20/20.

I decided to enter into the wildcat world by going with the .22 Super Jet instead. The ballistic's are very similar, and although it's a little work necking the .357 Mag brass down to .22 SJ spec's, being a rimmed case, it lends itself better to the single shot rifles in which I'll be shooting it.

I don't know as yet, as I haven't got the barrel back to play with it. From an educated guess (and a ton of .357 Mag brass to reform), I might be sorry in the long run, but I highly doubt it.
If anything, based on it's shoulder angle, shorter/fatter case, and all, it appears to lend itself to better accuracy, but like I said, who knows until it gets here.

We'll see.........

Bob
