Ive been testing Blue dot reduced loads fo the last couple of weeks,Im shooting a mod. 11 223 savage 22in.barrel.
I cant seem to get the accuracy I can out of the 50 and 55gr.bullets I was wondering if this is inhearent of the one in 9 twist or if my rifle just likes the 55-55gr. better. The 45s group 5 shots just under an inch. The 50-55gr. shoot much better.Ive used several differant grains of powder with all these rounds and the 45gr.do not seem to group as well.I realise 1 in groups are acceptibale for hunting. But was curious If its my gun or due to the twist.
Thanks,iblong

The fact that a reduced load may not shooot as good as a regular load, is no surprise no matter what the bullet is. Some rifles dont like some bullets either, twist prolly doesnt have anything to do with it. Those 45gr hornet bullets are like little rocks compared to the others, shorter, round nose, no much BC to them. Dont let it keep you up at night. Go with your load that gets an inch, scrap the testing, save the resources for the fur.

With the 50 and 55s as with the 45s ive tried
10-10.5-11.0-11.5 and 12 grs blue dot all bullets were hornady sp.My gun shot the 55s very well with all loads but my best groups were with 12 grains.Be sure to work up slowly for your gun.If I were going to go higher I would go
very carefull from this point, and check for pessure signs.

Thanks. I am also shooting them out of a Savage. 9, 10, 11 and 13 did well for me. Been working on the weights in-between lately.

Hhhhmmmmmmm, reduced loads, short (light weight)bullets, relatively fast twist; I'm not surprised that you are not pleased with performance !! Bullet length and twist rate are intimately connected, the reduced velocity helps, but, not enough !!!

Next thought, are you using Hornet bullets? If so, try the plastic tipped bullets, they are enough longer, that they MAY stabilize, and print smaller groups.

Iblong,
My most accurate load is without doubt, 13Gr.of Blue Dot, and a 40Gr.Sierra H.P. With 1-12 twist barrel.

Best of luck finding a good load.
Emilio .. Pico Rivera, Ca.

Work all loads up slowly.
