223 or 204

Im looking at another AR. I hate to order so Im thinking I will just get another 223.I could then later order a 204 upper for my other AR.The 223 is easier to find on the shelf than a 204. Which caliber do you guys like best? In most hunting situations I dont see any distance advantage to the 204 sinc 250 to 300 yards is a,most a non existant shot around here.ANy input?

I've got both, 2 223s and 1 204. Guess if your not a reloader I'd stick to the 223, shooting cost is higher and harder to find with the 204. My 204 is a heavy gun and I built it mostly for bench shooting and an up coming prairie dog trip.
If I had to choose which one to carry, it would be one of my lighter 223s.

Heck, build them yourself , then you can have one of each.
 
This is my 204 that I built for 750 bucks minus the scope. It's got a DPMS bcg and barrel, yankee hill hand guard, surplus ammo upper receiver, someone's cheap stripped lower, DPMS lpk , topped with a Burris 6.5-20x50. Oh and Jp trigger springs.

One more word of advise, 204 doesn't fit right in a pmag. That will eliminate a ton of headaches if you know that from the start. Speaking from experience.

I know this isn't one of the choices you offered, buuuutttt, if I was going to go with anything other than a 223 for predator hunting, it would be a 17 Rem.
 
JMHO----I have NO plans to ever buy a 204. I know it will shoot faster than my 223 or 22-250, But I like more punch with a heavier bullet. I have a buddy with a 204 and he doesn't handload, and sometimes he has a hard time finding ammo. 223 & 22-250 are a little more common. Good Luck on whatever you decide to buy----Riflemann
 
The .204 is far and away the best predator cartridge ive ever had. It seems like it was made for the hunter who needs a flat shooting rifle that wont tear up a coyote or a fox. If its a dedicated predator rig i would recommend a .204.

Yep, but just to the Walmart. They guaranteed 223 ammo would be in stock during any "end of the world" episode.
