.223 or 5.56

If you are going to be shooting a lot of military surplus ammo, (and on full auto) then get a 5.56 as that is the NATO chamber (just a little different).

If you are going to be shooting mostly commercial and handloads, then get the .223 Remington. It's potentially more accurate.
 
Turtle nailed it. My DTech is stamped 5.56 on the barrel. It is very accurate with my .223 reloads, but not so much so with factory .223 ammo. Whether the chambering has something to do with that, I can't say. Maybe Mike Milli, Dan Carey, or another riflesmith will have some comments on this issue for you.

OT confirmed my thinking. I will probably run reloads, since surplus is almost as spendy as commercial. This is sort of the .308 to 7.62x51 debate. .223 it is, thanks guys.
