im thinking of buying a savage 340 in .225 win. anyone here shooting this caliber? how do you like it?
ive read that it comparable to the 22-250.
thanks all

I have one but mine is in a model 70 Winchester. The gun shoots good but I have never really shot it for groups.I sited in with factory ammo and it shot just under an inch at 100yrds. I have killed one deer with it at 300yrds and it did its job very well with the deer only making a 40 yrd down hill dash before piling up. I like the round enough that I have been kicking around building one with a varmint barrel on a Savage action for G-Hoggin.

I bought a Winchester Model 70 .225 in 1968 and it was one of the best shooting rifles I have ever owned. It was stolen in 1990 and I have not found another in excellent condition.

Before buying one, I would look around to see how hard it is to find brass. I have heard that the caliber was discontinued so brass might be hard to find. In my case, I have a lot of brass and reloaded rounds so another would not be a problem.

Great cartridge. But very similar to the 22-250.

I have been thinking about one in an MGM Encore barrel. I like the fact that it is a rimmed(semi-rimmed) cartridge. Works great in single shots. Tom.

The .225 Winchester is a GREAT cartridge. It came out about the time that Rem introduced the 22-250, and Winchester brought out the .225 to compete since sales of the "doomed" .220 Swift were down.

It got a short shrift, because Winchester also went through the "post '64 disaster in quality, so the .225 never had a fair chance in the market place.

Brass has always been available, and will continue to be.

Obsolete and discontinued cartridges like the .220 Swift, the 222 Rem Mag, and the .225 seem to keep on, keepin' on

If Ruger made a #1-V in .225, I would buy it so fast, it would make your head spin.
