I would select one of the vx-freedom rimfire ... with the rimfire moa reticle. This will help you deal with drop for the longer shots when hunting and at the range if you want to stretch it out for fun.
2-7 or 3-9 are both fine. Depends more on the distance you shoot.
the AO is really more important for target shooting and at higher magnifications. Personally, I prefer no AO on scopes up to 10x. Beyond that I prefer AO. I also really only care for AO and the higher magnification on a gun shot mostly from a bench. To carry around I like em slim and trim with lower power.
Two other scopes to consider are the weaver classic rv-7 and the sightron 3-9 rimfire. The sightron has a xhair that is sort of medium thickness. I strongly prefer thinner reticles for small targets. That rimfire moa reticle is a little thinner than a standard duplex, and I wish they would put it in a 4-16x40 AO.
