.243 Browning Bar Semi-Automatic ?

I have a browning bar .243 semi-automatic rifle that jams when using 55 grain Nosler ballistic silvertips. Man I shot a lot of coyotes with the 75 grainers and was looking foreward to using the lesser weight. I loaded the 55 grainers with 43.3 grains of IMR-4320 and was wondering what the problem could be. The last time I put my gun away for the season I disasembled the hot gas piston and cleaned it off really good with a wire brush. I also cleaned the cylinder that the piston moves in. Now I am wondering if I have too much of a gap between the piston and cylinder and the hot gases going through the chamber are leaking through and causing the reloading rod to lose momuntum. Or could it be the hole in the middle of the barrel is fouled up and needs to be reemed out to let more hot gas into the piston chamber. My buddies browning bar shoots these bullets each and every time. Help is needed. Where do i go to get the specs on browning replacement parts ?

Total length of reloaded bullet is 2.648 inches and the bullet is seated .171 inches into the throat. The 55 grain silvertip is .787 inches long and .616 inches is showing from the top of the casing to the tip of the bullet.

What kind of groups did your BAR get with loads it likes? Been thinking about getting one, but have not talked to anyone with one with one in 243. I have a 270 Safari with a BOSS and I don't have any jamming issues.

I can shoot 3 inch groups at 150 yards all day with this gun. I go through 200 rounds a year easy. Running coyotes at 150 yards broadside takes a fair lead and when you fire at a coyote you watch for where the bullet is hitting so you can adjust and re-hammer. Semi-autos are great for watching where your bullets are going. The bolt hunters in our group have switched over to semies and do not have to worry about pulling the bolts back and realigning. We push the farmland blocks and have coyotes bolting across plowed snow covered fields. Great shooting. A 243 has the musclepower to put a running coyote down very easy !

I just got my BAR .243 back from gettig jamming issues fixed...haven't had it to the range yet but have high hopes for this rifle for sure...

Accuracy and sight after the shot was a big question for me. Recoil apparently is not an issue. I would like to shoot 55 grain ball tips @ 4000fps. Ever shot any loaded in such a manner? Thanxs.
G.C. Your BAR groups like mine! Pretty cool stuff. That cat is bad a$$!

Normally when a BAR jams it is one of three causes.

1-Gas piston is froze up. (usually the main cause)
2-Gas port in barrel is clogged.
3-Chamber is dirty.

One possible cause is that the moly coating on the Ballistic Silvertips is reducing the gas pressure in the barrel which could effect cycling..
