I have a 1-9.25 twist savage axis and am torn between which bullets to try out, I already have the nosler 70gr varmint ballistic tips but I always shot factory hornady superformance varmint 58gr and never had a prob on fur or accuracy
What's the more accurate bullet and recipe with varget are u guys using

Do you get longer shots? If so I would load some of the 70g noslers up and try them. If you don't like them since your gun shot the 58 g hornady factory ammo it should shoot them as reloads when u have the right recipe.

Sounds like you know your gun already does well with the 58gr. If it were me I would prob pass on the 70gr. Grab some 58's, or some 55gr NBT. Don't know for a fact but I bet the lighter bullets give up nothing to the 70gr out to 400yds and the lighter bullets would shoot flatter.

Load up 70 gr noslers .020 off the lands, with 40-42 gr of varget. This has been a consistent load in 5 different rifles. And they will flatten coyotes.

You will be happy with either. They both work well. I would buy what is cheapest in bulk.

I think the bullets are nearly equal in potential accuracy. But between the 2 I would use the Nosler. They have a slightly thicker jacket than the Vmax, which I feel lends better to controlled expansion.

My Axis XP II shoots the factory Winchester VarmintX (58 grain Vmax)into 1/4" groups pretty consistently.......insanely accurate but they were blowing huge holes in coyotes unless they were dead-on facing me. If your barrel likes the 58s then pick up a box of them and just try to match the velocity and seating depth of the factory loads. Also you could try the VarmintX, pretty cheap especially on sale and i have heard a lot of guys getting great accuracy with them. I switched to the 70 grain NBTs hand loaded to 3340 fps and absolutely love them. Stellar accuracy, no fur damage, and they flat out level a coyote.

I havent used Varget with either of those two. But using imr4320 or h-380 i have had great results with both depending on which barrel i was using at the time. My RA i got way better results with the 58g vmax using both powders. My first cold bore shot with that combo was always spot on. But with other rigs i got way better accuracy with the 55g nbts. Let the gun tell you as well as powders, primers, ect. Hope this helps good luck!!
