Any of you folks ever shoot a coyote with a Winchester 243 , 55 grain ballistic silvertip before? I have some and was going to give her a try! Thanks!

I've got some of the regular BTs in 55 grain but haven't loaded them yet. I've been quite pleased to date with 75 grain Vmaxes. If you shoot some, let me know here how they work out for you.

Mach243, I shot one coyote with that bullet. It practically gutted the poor guy. The bullet is very frangible and will splash on impact.

I have blasted around 40 coyotes with the 55
ballistic tips. Have almost cut them in half,
and shot some with a pinhole.
My opinion is if you shoot them under 250 yds
it is messy more times than not.I shot one at 450 yds in the throat facing me while he was in the comfort zone(pinhole)I like them for coyotes, but I
dont sell the fur, so I like the flat shooting lights out kind of performance I get with the 55s.I have had good luck with IMR4895

I've shot six coyotes with that bullet, deadly accurate out of my Model 7. Half had either a tiny or no exit hole, two had huge exit holes and one had a huge entrance hole.

I loaded some 55 gr Nosler BT for a friend of mine who shoots .243. I put them over 43 grains of H4895. I have not chronoed them yet but, he did shoot two coyotes last week with the loads. Both were under 100 yards both were 100% lights out before they hit the ground and both had a .243 entrance and an exit about the size of a dime.

Both were hit behind the shoulder broadside. I was very impressed.

All you gotta do is not miss!

Jessman, what length barrel do you have? Also what kinda groups are you getting? And how many grains of 4895?
Boy, thats alot of questions isn't it. Just wondering cause I just recently bought a Ruger no.1 in 243. Been shooting the nosler bt's in 95 grain. But now am wanting to gear up for yotes and have been toying the idea about the 55 grainers though. They should really be mean on groundhogs. Currently I'm getting 3/4" and under groups and didn't know if that light of a bullet would still group good at over 4100 fps.

I have had excellent luck with 44.0grs. of Varget behind the 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip. Accuracy was excellent, once I found the seating depth my barrel liked. Turned out when I seated them so I had one caliber length of bullet in the case neck my groups tightened up.

Craig,
I have a 22 in. tube on my rifle.
Also I took my load right out of the Nosler Manual.43.5 gr IMR 4895.Works for me.
They shoot pretty fair, just under an inch is what I get on average with the 55s.
I would try Varget, it works good with the 70 nosler bts. 55s are nasty on rockchucks!!
Have Fun

Last weekend I hunted with Randy Watson and I shot a coyote with my 243. I used Winchester 55 grain ballistic silvertip factory ammo. I hit the coyote in the shoulder at less than 100 yards. The coyote was flipped when the bullet hit bone. There was no exit, but I lost the hide at that shoulder. I Started to use Randy's 223, because I want to save my hides.
Good Hunting
