Hi there, just got a 25-06 AI put together on a rem 700 with a mcm htg stock. Wondering if anyone here has any experience with the caliber as a deer-coyote rifle (STEVE ???) Thanks

No experience with the AI but my st 25.06 loves retumbo and 110 gr accubonds retumbo seems to favor teh heavier bullets and gets good velocity

nitis, did a test with retumbo and found that the necks sooted up even with a fairly large charge.Did you have the same experience?

I shot one for a while; like any other high-velocity .25 caliber, the 100-grain Ballistic Tips kill antelope and deer in a superb fashion.

I've even killed a couple of bull elk with the 100-grain Ballistic and they simply fall off the side of the ridge. Dead-Right-There.

For coyotes, it's impossible to fault the 86-grain Ballistic Tip. It shoots fast, accurate and flat.

I have some 115 NBT and also some 85 NBT loaded up at the house now just waiting on decent weather to try them out to see how they do...jsut started working up loads for my 25-06 so still in the early stages right now

I have been chronographing loads in my 25-06 A.I. with a couple of different powders. Both RL-17 and RL-22 top out in the high 3500fps range with 100 grain Sierra Match Kings in a 26" 3-groove. I am using Norma brass which is known to be soft compared to Winchester, so I am probably reaching pressure sooner with Norma than I would with Win. brass. So I have some Win brass loaded up to test with Fed-210M primers.

RL-17 hasn't been impressive in the accuracy department with the two bullets I have tried so far, the 95 Berger FB and 100SMK. It has given me the highest velocity so far, I think at 60 grains.

RL-22 has been good in the accuracy department, giving a good combination of velocity in the mid 3500's w/100SMK and accuracy slightly above the .5" mark for 5 shots. I found a load that absolutely bug holes but the velocity is only 3100fps.

59grn RL-19, 95 Berger FB match, Norma 270 brass and a Fed 210M is my varmint/coyote load. I've gotten only one coyote with this load, but it hits like a sledge hammer. I have taken a handful of 500 yard rockchucks and its not as explosive as a V-Max but has adequate terminal capabilities. The load typically shoots 3/8" for 5 shots and its the most consistent and accurate load I've found with this gun. I have some hotter charges than 59grns loaded up and will test those when I get a chance.

Next 25-06 A.I barrel I would like to try a 1-12" twist instead of a 1-10" and maybe even a slightly longer barrel. I don't plan on shooting anything over 100 grains. I hope to shoot the varmint bullets faster.

I cant remeber how sooted they were and tey already went back through the tumbler if they were I didnt pay much attention as I was using some old brass that wasnt exactly shiny

with a higher velocity 25 there is almos no reason to shoot a 85 gr as the 100s will carry just about as well trajectory wise according to the ballistic coefficent charts I have been reading

if I was starting fresh I would try some rl 17 my load data shows some impressive velocities out of the standard 25.06

the reason I tried retumbo was reading reports of the 25.06 getting 3500 fps with 100 gr bt

I have a Stevens 200 in .25-06 and it shoots my handloads of 110gr Accubonds and 57gr of Retumbo into a .679" group at 100 yards. The only problem with the 110gr Accubonds I have seen is shooting coyotes with them. I have lost two coyotes with through and through shots. I should have went for the shoulder instead of behind it. Just something to keep in mind when using a big game bullet on a small animal like a coyote.

I am switching to the 85gr ballistic tip for coyotes and keeping the rest of my 110gr accubonds for deer or black bear.
