Hi to all.New to forum and also to reloading. I'm trying to find a good starting (safe) load using IMR4831 and the 75gr. Vmax bullets for my 25-06. It's a remington 700BDL. If anyone could help it would be great.I have done a lot of looking but to no avail so far.PS. think this site is great lots of good info and good people. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I shoot 51.0 grains IMR 4064 w/ the 75 VMax....AWESOME!!! It is a max load, so work up to it in your rifle, but it is my "Go To" 25/06 load in many different rifles....shoots super in them all!! Very fast, very accurate and very flat....hits like a Mack truck....

Jack, do you think the IMR4831 will work as well? I have it on hand and would like to try it first. Is it a faster or slower burner than the 4064 and would you load heavier or lighter with it. Thanks in advance.

Sure it will work. I like it better as it is slower and will fill the case more. I seem to get better results with cases near full of powder.
According to Sierra you can get slightly more velocity from H4831 SC, but by all means try the IMR4831 if you already have it on hand.

IMR-4831 works very well. One barrel I ran was a Shilen 1-12 twist, and the plan was to shoot 85 gr., but in early testing with 75 gr. Hornadys, it ran them over 4000 fps, and was deadly accurate. Wore the barrel out shooting them. Would have to look a bit for the actual load, but it was a case full, and pure poison.

After much experimentation with most all powders my most accurate (0.30" @ 100 yards 5 shots) load for the 75 gr Vmax
was with 49 gr of IMR 4320. This chronographed 3600 fps out of a 26 " bull barrel 1 in 10 twist.

I have never shot a coyote with one, but the affect they have on prairie dogs is a whole bunch different that that of a 223. My guess is that the damage would be quite extensive, if you want to save pelts I suggest that you look eleswhere.

Is there anything left of the coyotes after you hit them??? I am looking for a new gun, curious on the damage.

I find if I shoot them through the ribs, the exits arent to bad. Punch em t hrough the shoulder or neck and the holes are enormous. I head shot a fox yesterday with my load at 10 ft. No pelt damage and no head. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have flipped coyotes at 300 yards with a 25/06, so it is not the most fur friendly cartrige to go to. I bet that the 200g Barnes Tripple shock would be fur friendly on yotes.
