from-a-grand:

In fact, your load is an overload.

The Hornady 4th Edition Manual lists a max load of 54.8 gr. of IMR 4350 with the Speer 87 gr bullet [Speer #2530] in the 25/06.

Thought you and others should know that; before posting, you need to declare that if you know it.

Perhaps some clarification is needed. IMR or Hodgdon 4350?
Not sure why Hornady would have data for speer bullets, but the 87 grain 25caliber Tnt bullet is pn#1246 (not #2530). According to Speer's #12 data manual I have handy, h4350 grain range is is 54.0 to 58.0, so h4350 is not over book max if that is the powder. IMR4350 is 52.0 to 56.0grains.

Buckeye hit the nail on the head, I was talking about IMR. I started at 53 gr and every .5 I added I dialed in tighter until I hit 57, where I started to get a few strays so I backed it off and left it. It shoots fine out of my Sako with no signs of stress, so I left it there... Shot at 200 yds at snowwhite 204's range with a fresh batch of these last week and printed a .77" 3 shot group, and a 1.2 5 shot pattern... tightest to date out of that gun!

~ I just received a PM to note that I still got trumped by his Ruger .223 build.(Happy!?)

Why, yes I am... Thank you for asking. What, you think you can hop in your wife's Kia and drive back to NY and escape the razzing? hahaha!!!

1happyshooter:

I quoted the Hornady load with IMR and the Speer # 2530 bullet as it is generally comparative to from-a-grand's load with the 87 gr. Speer TNT bullet.

I knew they were different bullets, BUT the point I was making was the powder type/quantity and the SAME bullet weight with IMR powder is an overload in the Hornady manual.

I would never post an overload on the net without a qualification accordingly. Yes, that means consulting 5-6 manuals prior to posting a load...EVERYONE should try that, ALL THE TIME!

Thus, the reason I post none of my loads on the net': most folks never check a load with a manual.
