Over the past summer I have deveoped a 25 cal. wildcat based on the 204 Ruger case. Performance is very close to factory loaded 250 Sav ammo, 87gr. at 3000fps and 100gr. at 2750fps.

I took it to WI for testing this Nov. the season there was unduely warm and the area we hunted was in the wolf recovery area and the were plenty of wolves present(tracks and sighting by members of our group). It took a few days to find a travel coridor that was been use durrring daylight hours. On the fourth day of the season I finnnaly connetced with a nice buck.

Bullet performance, the shot was about 70yds and the 100gr NP took out a rib on entry destroyed the lungs and took another rib out on the far side lodging in the far side upper leg. The deer went about 6 good leaps and piled up leaving a very heavy blood trail the whole distance.

I was gonna say wounldn't that be a little shy of the .250 Savage? I'm in the middle of my winter project contemplating between the .250AI or 25x55AI.
What did the die set cost you? Nice deer BTW.

I had Hornady make the dies and they were able to just open the standard 204 to .25 it was a very reasonable $99.00 plus shipping most everyone else wanted over $200.. The Horn. dies produce great ammo and the expander will open the 204 to 25 in one pass. The original test cases were made with a 250 Savage die which will partially necksize the 204 case.

The barrel is a #1 Pac-Nor 5 groove 1-10 twist Supermatch, Pac-Nor was a pleasure to work with.

Buzz-bee, I built this because I wanted a deer cartridge to fit a small boltface rifle that could be changed back to .223Rem in a few minutes. If I were doing it just for a deer rifle I'd go with the .250 Sav, .250AI or .25 Souper with a 1-8 twist to handle 117 and 120gr bullets.
