Anyone know where I might find some information on a wildcat cartridge that is 25 caliber and based on the 308 casing?

thanks

25 Souper...necked down 260 or necked up 243...take your pick...0.007" difference one way, 0.014" difference the other... he 25 Souper came out a few years after the 243 made it's debut...

It is a very good early wildcat, but has been superceded several times by other modern cartridges...slightly bigger than the 250 Savage and slightly smaller than the 257 Roberts...the 25 Souper AI has basically the same case volume as the Roberts.

It will do anything the 250 Savage or 257 Roberts will do just as effectively and is a worthy addition to the 308 family of cartridges leaving out the "VS" BS.

I keep thinking of doing a Savage switch barrel to fill in the 25 cal gap in my otherwise full 308 case lineup from 22 to 35 cal.

LUCK

Unless you already have a .257 diameter barrel consider going to the 6.5 (.264) caliber. The selection of projectiles is much better in that caliber.

Good luck

There was a 25 Souper in my family for years until it was stolen from my brother-in-law about 20 years ago. It was a nice Mauser 98 action with a lovely blond Birdseye Maple stock. I got to shoot it a few times, and never should have let it out of my hands. But that was when I was young and hadn't got bit by the reloading bug, so wildcats were a scary thing.

A few years later, I picked up a nice 257 Roberts, which I had converted to a 25-06 when I felt that I needed to really "reach out and touch something". I've had it now for 30+ years, and used it last weekend for some F-class shooting at 600 yards.
