257 weatherby 2.5" high@100 yards. What's your thoughts?

I am using 115 Berger vld bullets that I handload out of a waetherby mark V.

I have it sighted in 2.5" high @ 95 yards.

Where do you guys that shoot a 257 weatherby sight in at 100 yards. 2"? 3"?

I usually try and shoot at 200, and zero @ 300. But with deer rifle season starting on Saturday and the weather is not good for shooting long distances today and will be worse tomorrow 100 yards is as far as I will be able to shoot before the season. I live in NW OK so my shots will be from close to 350+.

I have been working up loads and sighting in several other rifles, that I plan on testing out on deer this year, that's why I have not had a chance to sight in this rifle until the last minute.

Thanks in advance.

I am very pleased with the accuracy of the load I'm using. I only shot one 4 shot group at 100 after sighting in and it was just over a 1/4"!! I usually don't have to sight this gun in but I put a new luepold vx3 with a little higher magnification on top.

That's very good accuracy for this rifle. It's always been sub MOA, but 1/4" surprised me.

It's absolutely perfect left and right and 2.5" high. Will that make my maximum point blank range about 300-315 yards?

Btw, any deer or pronghorn hunter deserves to hunt with a 257 weatherby. It will blow your mind!! It was that way for me anyway. The flattest shooting gun I've ever shot, I believe. And I owned a 6.5x284 back when they got really popular "around my area". You need to be a handloader if you want to shoot this gun, unless you have lotsa money to spend on ammunition.

Thanks for the advice.

I REALLY love my .257 wby mag. Like chefpierre said up I would sight mine with zero @ 200yds, little high at 100 and the same low at 300. Awesome round. All the whitetail I've shot with this round have dropped like they were hit by the hammer of god.

What do you want to use the round for? For coyote the 257 can get much flatter with lighter loads. For deer this or a 120 partition are the bees knees.

Sounds like you are shooting deer though. Do what works for you though. Way back i dreamed of having a Mark V .257 with a scewbean mesquite stock ( in place of the claro). Enjoy. Ron

im running my accumark right at 1.75 high @100, im running a 100 g ballistic tip through mine, as stated above the 257 is a hammer on whitetails,

For me the terrain is going to dictate where I set my zero. In the country I hunt 100yrd shot are on the close side of things, now I do shoot a good majority of coyotes at 100 yrds but with the wide open terrain they can have a tendency to hang-up at 2-300yrds. Because of this all of my rifles are set-up with a 200yrd zero, that puts me from 1" to 1.75" high at 100 and from 4" to 8" low at 300yrds depending on the load and caliber. So from point blank to 3-350yrds I hold on fur and it has worked well for me. for the further shots a bdc/mil style reticle can come in handy or turn knobs.

Either way, a guy just needs to know where that particular load/caliber is going to shoot at a given distance.

I zero everything at 300yds. I'd think your zero will be close to 275 or so. Hard to say not lnowing your velocity. You should be good to close to 400 if you hold top of back

Well...

That can be done if you have the proper scope.

I own a MK V Ultra light in 257 WTBY and I agree it is the hammer of god on whitetails. I shoot a 100 gr BT never a exit wound and jello inside the ribcage. I made the mistake once of shooting a coyote with it middle of the day during deer season almost cut him into two pieces....

I zero at 200 and use the turrets for anything over that. I have a Huskemaw scope with calibrated to my bullet and load turrets [beeep].

Thanks for all of the info. I killed a buck around 325-350 yards. I aimed for a high shoulder shot and that's where the bullet hit. Dropped him. I like the Berger vld bullets in 115.

I have a vx 3 with target knobs but don't use a rangefinder. That's why I like this gun/caliber.

Thank guys.

Congrats Jacob on the nice shot, sounds like you got a real shooter there. I've shot a couple Mark V's in 257 Weatherby and can say they are a really nice rifle.

Best get a rangefinder though to make use of a 1/4 in capable rifle with the nice Leupy vx 3 with turrets.
