.270 caliber for coyotes?

Do any of you use a .270 for predators? I see that I can reload with 110 grain Hornady bullets. Would that size bullet be too nasty on yotes?

As with any bullet you haven't used you'll need to see how it shoots in your rifle. Acceptable accuracy sometimes is hard to find on both the light and heavy end of the spectrum.

As far as your 270 for coyotes I know a bunch of fellas that use their deer rifles for this duty. They like the idea of keeping in practice for deer season and shooting that one rifle certainly is good practice.

I wouldn't plan on saving the hides, the 270 with light fast bullet can be really destructive on coyote sized animals. For sure you won't see much of the bite at the bullet thing.

if your choices are coyote hunting with a 270 or not coyote hunting at all, then hunt with your 270. some guys use the 270 on purpose. i know a few guys that will hunt deer and coyotes at the same time with that round.

I for One use a .270 for yotes 110 Gr. V-Max pills @ 3250 f.p.s. and getting 3/4" groups. Longest shot to date 380 yards bang flop. These bullets are just devistating, coyotes drop with authority, and don't spin or run after the shot. close in shots (under about 100 yards) can look pretty ugly with extreamly large wound channels.

That is so true that I'm constantly asking myself why I have so many rifles. The answer is; 'Its The Addiction Stupid' & then I go back to the loading bench.
By the way my .270 is my favorite rifle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I've shot coyotes with a .270 Win. with a 150 gr. Ballistic Tip down to a 90 gr. Speer TNT. The TNT chronos at 3400 fps and is a flat shooter and my gun shoots them well. I'm sure the 110 gr. Vmax is a fine coyote round also.

Don't know where folks get the idea a coyote round has to be 22 caliber or lower. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The 270 Winchester is a great choice for coyotes. Shooting a 90 grain Sierra HP its pretty flat shooting, and hits hard. No spinning or running on anything near a good shot.

I know there are better choices for fur, but its not nearly as bad as many say.

So don't overlook the 270 as a fantastic coyote round.

Here are a few shot with the 270 last week. Next to the 243 Win, its my favorite coyote stomper that I used back "way when" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have killed a number with my 270 Win. The hits with 90 grain Sierra hollow points were dramatic! Anymore, if I pack the 270 I use 130 or 150 grain deer bullets and they usually punch a exit hole not much bigger that the 223 does. Watch out for fringe hits.

Thanks, all. I have a brother-in-law that doesn't like a pump gun and has one in .270. He wants a Winchester 94 in 30-30, and I just happen to have one of those. I think I might just trade him for the .270 and make that my predator gun. Thanks again.
