Don't go cheap on the handloading manuals. Get more than one and as said above get them now.
I used to reference 'pet loads' such as posted on various sites. Then I found a load posted there that seemed extreme. Sure enough I mentioned it and the person who posted the load came on the forum to say that he did not use that load anymore as it was too hot! He never removed it from that site however!
As to powders work up a load using the Varget that you have. I found an accurate load for the 270 Win using RL15 so Varget may work well also.
As to RL 22 being the best powder I go by what the late, great Bob Hagel wrote that "Each rifle is an individual"
The classic powder for the 270 Win has been 4831 by the way not that RL 22 is not very good.
