270 Powder Recommendation

I just picked up a new Tikka in the 270. I have never loaded for this cartridge before. I plan on using the SGK 110g for predators and the Nosler 130g for deer. Another idea I had for deer was the Barnes 110g TTSX. I have the following powders on hand:

IMR4831
H4831sc
H414
IMR4064
Varget
H4350
IMR4350
H380



Which one of these powders would you start with for the 110g SGK?

What are some other good 270 powders?

Its not on your list but H4895 performed extremely well with the 110gr Vmax. Nosler has load data for H4895 on their website. Always used H4831sc for the 130s.

35 or 40 years ago I used to load the 110 grain Hornady with 60 grain if IMR 4350. It would turn a jackrabbit inside out. I did not have a chronograph way back then but according to my period (Vol II) Hornady book I was getting around 3300 FPS with that load.

I used IMR 4350 or my 130 grain bullets too. 57 grains for that bullet. My Ruger M77 just seemed to like that powder for some reason. The same combo shot pretty good in my M70 Winchester too but I shot more in my Ruger because where I lived at the time that I had it I had lots of jacks to shoot at.
 
I would use IMR 4064 on the 110's and either of the 4350's for 130's.... If you get to using 150's 4831 is good but Reloder 26 will make them go fast.
 
I shoot the 110g Sierra Game king and the 110g tipped triple shock with the same loads on deer:

Winchester brass, rem brass

110g Sierra
58g of Win 760
Fed 210 primer
3375 fps
1/2" groups in Rem 700 and Ruger all weather
760=414 by most accounts

110g Tipped barnes triple shock
57-58g of R#17
Fed 215
bullet seated .050 off the lands
5/8" groups in both rifles
3350 fps

H4350 works well in my brother's rifle, about 3350 fps, I can not remember his load, but he was shooting 3/4" with a non tuned rifle with a 4x14 on it.

These loads are so flat shooting and kill so well, I sold all my 130 and 150g bullets, deer just flop. The 110g Tipped triple shock load gives complete penetration from front to back on deer that I have shot. The 110g Hornady HP is a great varmint bullet, and I use the same loads. I would like to kill a coyote with a 110g V max, they would not suffer...which I like.
 
Not sure about a predator load but, a 140 grain Accubond over top of 55 grains of RL19 is nothing short of magic out of my TC Venture.
 
I use H414 for 110 VMaxes.
In never ever had any luck w/H4831, everyone's go to powder & 130 grain bullets. RL 22 is what Im using now with 130's.
 
Never shot the lighter bullets in .270 but my long-time go-to whitetail killer was 55 grs of IMR-4350 with any good 130. I mostly shot Sierra flat base or Nosler partitions. Deer never went far after encountering either.
 
For years my go-to load was 59 grains of IMR 4831 behind a 130-grain Speer GS, lit with a CCI-200, and I preferred Winchester brass. I later discovered that 54 grains of IMR 4350 performed just about as well. I always seated my projectiles to within about .010" of the lands; it allowed me to get clover-leaf groups at 100 yards.

And FWIW, the 4831 load clocked at 3150 out of my 22" BDL. I was pretty amazed.

I then went to AA 3100 and now use 60 grains, but that powder has been discontinued. I guess when this jug is gone I will go back to the 4831...
 
For deer "The Jack O'Conner" load of 60 grains of H4831 with 130 grain Sierra FB or Boattail bullets and Winchester primers produced 1 hole 3 shot groups and approximately 3100 fps measured @10' with Oehler 33 Chronograph using Remington 700 ADL with free floated barrel. It would pole-ax deer.

With a 24" BBL IMR4350 has very good load density, burn rate and velocity with 110's and 130's. If you want max velocity for both RL17 is hard to beat.
