270 win. factory load 130 grain??

My .270 shoots sub-moa with 130 grain Federal Nosler Ballistic Tips. The problem is the amount of meat that is wasted.

My gun seems to like 130 grain much more than 150 grain bullets I tried before. Looking for suggestions on factory loads for deer and antelope that won't destroy so much meat.

What 270 ammo are you using on deer and antelope?

My 270 is a Savage 111 pre accutrigger, I have shot many different loads at deer and other game. In all honesty before I started reloading I shot the Blue box federal 130 gr Soft point more often than not, cheapest ammo available and it shot sub moa and dropped deer quickly and humanely with out ruining to much meat. Now having said that I have also used Federal Fusion, Winchester Ballistic Silver Tip, Remington Corelokt, Herters, and Winchester soft points all to great affect and little in the way of ruined meat.

Now having said all that I have a question for you, where exactly are you shooting your deer? If your aiming for the shoulder your gonna ruin meat no matter what bullet you use. I have shot many deer in the shoulder and although the damage may be slight less using soft points over polymer tipped bullets the difference is marginal at best. It just doesn't matter if you hit the deer in an area with desireable meat you are going to waste some of it.

Now I have no personal experience with them yet but you may try and find something loaded with the Barnes TSX bullets, they are all copper and although they expand well they do not fragment. There are many members on this forum using them to great success.

Like FairChase stated if you hit bone it's going to ruin some meat. I as well have used factory Federal, Win and Rem 130 soft points on numerous antelope and deer. I've found the best shot placement is directly behind and a little bellow the point of the shoulder when broadside, should be the heart.

Shoot for the vitals (ribs) I used the 130gr nosler bt for a lot of years and if hit in the ribs there is really nothing of value lost. Stay away from the shoulders or it'll be a mess.

The nosler BTs at 130gns are what I load my .270 at. my Stevens loves them and always go for the forward rib shot if broadside if placed just right its a heart shot. takes a little practice, [beeep] an arrow when shot in the shoulder will ruin a bunch of meat. Don't ask me how I know.

The 270 was the only caliber I used for deer hunting for over 25 years, and I mostly used handloads. The load I used was the old standard one for the 270, 60 grains of H4831 powder and a 130 grain bullet. In my case it was the Sierra Gameking. I did use factory loads a few times, Remington Core-Locts, or Federal Supremes, and I'm not even sure Federal still makes them. I just felt that I got better results from my handloads than I did the factory ones, but the factory loads today have some very good choices.
