270 WSM and Varget

Neither of them are popular powders in the 270 Wizzum. Especially varget. Don't know of anybody who runs it in the WSMs. The powders I listed all work well in them. I have not personally used R-17 in it, but it was designed for such WSM type cartridges and I know others who have used it with high velocity/accuracy. Magpro also produces very high velocities, higher than R-19 or Varget......

For the 110 bullet where are you getting your information ? I swear by Mag Pro for the 150 gr bullet. 71.2grs pushes a 150 gr Speer SBT just about 3,200 fps. When I first learned that Varget can be used . I also had same reaction as you. Any how tomorrow morning I'll find out if Varget is any good. 4350 is just a tad bit faster then Re#19. I have some H4350 I think I'll load up a few of those. Local gun shop has some Re#17 I just might buy a can of that and try it too.

Just back from the range. Varget produced smaller groups then H4350 I loaded up to max listed load. Case capacity is 72grs and Max of the Varget was 57 and Max of the H4350 was 64. But no doubt about it Varget produced tighter(3/4MOA) group for all the powder charges.(Perfect for coyotes this coming weekend) I will say that the max load of H4350 group tightened up.I need that powder for my 6x284.But dang I had no chronograph so I'll have to go by the book and believe its 3,400 FPS.

If you can, I'd still give the other powders I listed a try. You may very well get higher velocities and tighter groups still.........

I was just looking at some accuracy loads I twisted up. 60.7gr of Magpro with a 135gr SMK, Win cases, Fed 210M primers. 3160fps. VERY accurate......

What make and Barrel length is your 270 WSM ? Mine is a tuned and bedded Mod 70 24 factory BBL. 60.7 grs of Magpro with a 135 gr bullet is a light load but if your getting great accuracy ! I just want to try and beat the 270 Weatherby Mag. My 150 gr loads have 71.4 grs of Magpro for a velocity Aprox 3200 then my chronograph took a dump on me. The 270 WSM is a "Bad to the Bone" cartridge

My bad. It is 60.7gr IMR 4350. Not Magpro

Very nice rifle . Mine is the same action Classic Mod 70 controlled feed ,but a Laminate stock. I have a Timney trigger and a ez-recoil pad along with a super loud muzzle brake.I wonder what that 110 V-Max will do to a coyote. I'll find out this weekend in Nevada.

Mine was a Savage 12 FVSS with a B&C Duramax stock

It seemed to like 73 grs. of MagPro behind a 140 gr. Accubond pretty well. It now lives in FL and kills hogs for a living.
