I have a TC Encore in 280 thats giving me fits. Only has about 60 rounds through it but the groups are poor. Anybody got any good loads or helpful hints to tighten the groups up a little. Seems to shoot 3 in a decint group but throws the last two a mile away. It has a new ss pro-hunter barrel, trigger job, sigtron optics. Just your basic encore. Am I worried about the accuracy to soon? Should I keep putting rounds through it tillits has over a hundred roundsthrough the barrel? Loads have been 120 v-max/760powder,120nosler/h-380,140 accubond/varget. Results seem to be the same, about inch and one half, two inch groups. All bullets either touching t /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifhe lands or .005 off.

How old is the rifle??? Was it bought before SMith & Wesson bought out TC??? Ive expecting TC's stuff to down hill soon.

The barrel was bought about a month ago, dont know how long it may have set on the shelf. It came in the new blister pack, not the old style box.

It could be that it just doesn't like the two bullets you've tried. Inch and a half groups are well within reason for a hunting rifle though. That's certainly minute of deer out to any range the 280 is capable of shooting reasonably.

Make sure you are full length resizing the above website can tell you why that is important.TC's are defintely different to reload for than bolt guns.

light pills and fast powders for that round IMHO. I would go with 140-150gr and RL22 or 4831sc. If you have to go lighter on your pills, then look in the slower than varget range.

My 280AI thrives on both those powders.

Pycodog,

Make sure you are headspacing the cases properly. You must re-set the cases after firing to the correct .001 headspace.
Mike Bellms website is invaluable for this.

Also the T/C barels can be very picky about what they like. I have read other accuracy reports on other sites and the 280rem barrels have shot under 1 inch.

The T/C barrel bores are rough, they need 100 plus rounds to smooth out. My pro huinter 25-06 needed 130+ rounds before the barrel started to shoot 1/2 inch 3 shot groups.

Have you free floated your fore-arm?? Also try some upward barrel pressure on the fore-end tip...use a folded match book just to test.

Won't happen, T/C is one of the few American gun companies making a profit. Mangaement only screws with the gun companies not making a profit. The infusion of "Cash" will only make T/C stronger.

I've got a problem with my T/C Encore barrel in .243 shooting all over. I got a constant run-around from T/C about this that and the other. About a month after a S&W bought them I called them back and was told to send it on in and they'd take care of it. I just haven't had the chance to send it off. Maybe later this week or next. Seems like the S&W acquisition is a good thing so far.

I have been trying to shoot 5 shot groups with this rifle,Im beginning to think that is heating my barrel to much and throwing the last two rounds out of the group. Looking over my targets, it seemed to shoot three in about one inch and the other two were out about an inch. Checked the gap between the barrel and the frame, was about .002 tight. Thought I go back to the range tomorrow and try three shot groups only, see what happens.
