2muchgun & his Weaver scopes........

Been looking into a lot of scopes lately and when 2much stated that the Weavers use the same lenses as the Bushnell Elite 4200's. I thought I better do some checking into this. Not to discredit 2much, as I respect his opinion, but to just find out for myself. So I called Weaver today and found out that they are made by LOW! For those of you that don't know, LOW is one of the better optic houses out there. So, 2much hit the nail on the head about Weaver being a bargain. I have several older Weaver fixed power scopes that are still going strong. But to tell the truth, I haven't bought a new Weaver scope in sometime now. Why? I don't know, maybe because they don't seem to be in the limelight as other scopes these days. Is it me, or do they not do as much advertising as they use to? Anyway, just wanted to tip my hat to 2much and his Weaver scopes!!!

Thanks Broek. It is true. The Weaver Classic and the Bushnell 4200 share the same lenses from Light Optical Works in Japan. I'm not guessing when I tell you this. Have been told by several respected sources in the optics industry. LOW is probably the most respected optical house in Japan. I have owned more scopes than I can remember. I'll tell any who want to listen that the Weaver Classic, K and T-series lines are the best value out there, in terms of glass, tracking ability, and toughness........

What about new Weaver products like the 40/44's that look similiar to something that might have had a Simmons logo on it prevoiusly? With all of the mergers, sales, etc. that have taken place it's hard to keep track of who's making what and where these days. Glad to hear that about their lenses, wasn't sure if the "new" Weaver was the same as the Weaver of old.

Yes. I forgot to add the "V" after "Classic".

I've used a bunch of V's, T's, and K's. You can't beat 'em for the money.

The new 243 will sport the T-36 for initial load testing and probably for competition if it deems itself worthy......

Bucks are chasin' the does now, Mike........

I have Nightforce, Leupold MK IVs, IOR etc.

Hands down, not one of my higher end scopes has been more repeatable (twisting turrets)than my Weaver V16. The others have better glass, but when they cost upwards of 3x to 5x as much, they should.

The Weavers have always been "sleepers" in the glass buisness. There is a reason you see a lot of them in the benchrest community.

I normally put some variation of a Weaver on guns that I do not feel like spending big $ on. If I am going anything less than a VX III, I will usually just opt for a Weaver.

Great minds.....

Either that or we are both equally warped.

I make my living carrying guns and have formed some definate opinions doing so.

whew...that removes some stress when endorsing some weaver models (the ones i own)...now i have sum firm data to go along with "IMO"...wonder'n if their rimfire models employ LOW...my eyes like'em...

Hard to hunt them at work. We're on 10hr shifts, All Nov. Working Saturday's as well...

We usually get hit hard with OT in the summer, but not in Oct/Nov. There goes my hunting season.

Just got back from the Washtenaw Sportsmans meeting a little bit ago. It's finally official.

Bud shot a P&Y 10pt. tonight that we haven't found yet ,cuz I had to go to [beeep] meeting. Blood looks good though. Hopefully he'll be there in the morning.

Back to our regularly scheduled program......

The only Weaver I've used that I cannot endorse is their 2.5-8x handgun scope. The eye relief just wasn't right for me......

I had one of their rimfire scopes back in the early 70's that wasn't worth owning. I remember it was a 4X fixed, but not the model.
That soured me on them, which it now sounds like may have been in error, since I never considered them again.

I had the same experience with the low-end Bushnells on 22's and never looked at their Elite line to see how they perform.

I guess I better get caught up with the times.

Next thing, Tasco's will be getting recommended.
Not gonna fall for that one, though.

I was into air rifles in a big way 10 years ago, and the guys shooting those heavy forward recoiling springer air rifles highly recommended the Weaver V-16. So, I bought one, then two, + more of them for my springers. I just can't recommend a scope more highly for that environment, than the V-16. The glass is excellent, the endurace under heavy forward recoil forces is as good as it can be, and they focus down to 10 yards. My hat is off the the design team at Weaver that put that scope together, as well as the manufacturing folks who assemble them today.
I kept 3 of them when I left the air rifle game and began shooting centerfire, and 22 RF rifles exclusively.
