#2's for coyotes

I have my gun patterned with #4 buck and it shoots pretty good. I see that Remington makes the Nitro Mag in #2 shot. How effective would this be on coyotes 50yds and
in? I have no experience with #2.

Thanks

Not as effective as No. Four Buck. Personally, I wouldn't drop below BB's for coyotes. Fifty yards is a stretch for #2 shot, even if it would be Hevi-Shot 2's, which the Nitro Mag's are not. If I really needed to switch then a load of BB's or Dead Coyote T shot would be the smallest. Why the switch from the Four Buck?

No reason for thinking about switching, just thinking and wondering about the #2 shot. Also, in TN it is illegal to use #4 buck, has to be .19 BBB or smaller. So #2 is an option, and I am not going to spend a lot on hevi-shot BBB.

Thanks!

The original post stated you were set-up for No. Four Buck, that's why my recommendation. Now, that's too big huh? Well, in that case I'd go with a good magnum loading of BB's. Much superior to #2's.

When I had Bansner's work on my 12ga they told me to use #2 Federals in it. The #2 Federals were a lighter load of lead, faster shot out of barrel. I tried some Win copper plated #2s, they stopped at the skull of the fox.

I won't even use lead BB's anymore let alone deuces. Had lead BB's fail me twice last year and I had shot them for 6 years. Not anymore, broke my heart twice last calling season.

Get a Carlsons hevi shot choke tube and shoot dead coyote loads. No reason to re-invent the wheel here.

#2 lead will get the job done just fine. You guys are making coyotes into something they ain't. I've killed them with 5's and 6's while turkey hunting. Now I usually use BB'-#4 buck and everything between but wouldn't hesitate using 2's.

we used buck all the time. usally took more than one shot started to use 2s and well, the coyotes dont like em. Gerry blair claimed 2s to be very good loads but he shot ol moose [beeep] a ten gauge. 2s are my choice for the gauge. more pellets and smaller to penatrate deeper.

I've killed a few coyotes with regular #4 shot in 3". Killed them all inside 35yds in front of hounds. #4 buck just became legal here in PA last year I believe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
