30/06 help

One of the well documented, all-time classic 30-06 loads is 57gr IMR 4350 with 165-168gr bullets.

It is a great place to start, and shoots well in most.

I've used it on 4 whitetails, out of 2 different rifles, with 165gr SGKs, and 165gr Speer HCs. Think I used it with Speer Grand Slams also......

Same load for me, but I do use H4350 instead. I would use a 165gr. bullet of your choice and start with 57gr. of either IMR4350 or H4350 and adjust from there if you even have to. I do use Rem. 9 1/2 primers.

When I load 30-06 I use the Hornady hand book. My loads are a 150 gr. Hornady SST #30302,CCI primer, Hodgdon H414 powder, about 56.7 gr. According to the book that should put you at about 2900 FPS.
I shoot a HOWA 1500. My son and I both shot deer with this load and I think it works great. I'm sorry I can't tell you how good it is on paper because it's been a year or so since I have shot it. But, from what I can remember I had real close groups. I am quite new to reloading so still learning. I mostly reload for hunting not target practice. I hope this helps. BTW I think Hornady has the best product out there my opinion.

It will work. I've tried a lot of different powder in 30-06 through the years. Even had some super nice accurate loads using other powder, but it took a lot of worked up loads to get it. You can dump 57gr. of 4350 in a case with a 165gr. bullet, even the Rem. core lock 165's, stick a Rem 9 1/2 primer in the other end, seat them so the feed well and shoot a minimum of 1.5" groups with most any 30-06 rifles. Most will group under that. Make a .2 to .5 grain adjustment if need be and your done.
My Husqvarna 06 thinks 165gr. Nosler Partitions, 57.5gr. of H4350, Rem. brass and primer, is a match load.

Honestly! It shoots them way better than a sporter rifle has
a right to.

My thoughts would be if you have it use it. Then when it's gone try something different. Make sure that you look at a hand book/guide to make sure that powder will work for 30-06 and gr. bullet your using. I'm guessing you did already cause you wouldn't be asking. lol

My pet load for our 30-06's is, Rem Nickel brass, 56.0gr. charge of IMR 4350, CCI Benchrest primer, Hornady 165gr. SST, for a Chrono speed of 2710fps. I have also used IMR 4064, with all the same data as above, but the Chrono reads 2680fps. Good Luck----Riflemann

I use 51.3 grs of IMR 4064 with 150gr Horn SP's. Very accurate out of my 03-A3 Springfield. I also load 125gr Sierras with 56.9 grs of Varget....they run about 3260 fps avg...great coyote load. These loads work in my gun...may not in yours..be careful.

57.0 grains of IMR-4350 behind a Sierra 165 grain HPBT Gameking. Old pet load of many shooters, sub in the Matchking for paper or steel.

I use RE19 under a 168gr Barnes T-TSX for around 2,875+fps and very good accuracy.

However, as has been said, you can't go wrong using a 4350 in the 30-06.

This is a load I developed for my 90's vintage Savage 110 in 3006. I cant remember the powder charge but its IMR 4895 under a 168gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. This was a 4 shot group at 100yrds. I think I will keep it. When I get home I will look it up and repost. If I remember right it was the 2nd or 3rd load from the minimum for this weight bullet.

Now that I think about it its the load that took the deer in my pic.

I used 53 Gr. of 4064 behind 150 gr. Sierra Spitzers in my 06 since 1965 up until about 1998.
Had more one shot kills than you can shake astick at. Don't use it much anymore. The gun I mean. Just got into some other calibers for a change.

52-53g of IMR 4064 will work well with a 150g Hornady Sp, 150g Sierra Sp, 150g Nosler Accubond.

48-49g works well with the 165g bullets.

Federal 210's, Rem 9 1/2's, and CCI 200's work well with IMR 4064.

I use 180gr. Sierra pro Hunters for big game and milk jug hunting. These bullets just work in my rifle. Also,57.5gr. of IMR 4831.
