hey guys!.. ive been putting together a survival kit for the 4x4. In case i end up stranded in the high country(wyoming not iowa..lol) Anyway ive got this old H&R single shot 30/30 takedown that im keeping in there and it occours to me that it may be hard to take smaller game with that gun.. but its the only cheapo i have to just leave in the truck at all times..so i was wondering if it is possible to load shotshells for a 30/30?
thanks

Good question, I'll be looking to see the answers, i wouldn't see why not, just the plastic and lead may play havic on the rifling.

of course..but for a survival tool were talking just having them to shoot a squirl or grouse at 15 yrds instead of larger bullet that would desentigrade it. odds are i'll never shot shot shell through it.. but wouldnt it be handy to posess a couple of them if you found yourself in such a predicament?

well looks like the reviews on them are bad.. for the actual pistol bullet. but they say the can make anything you need so if you had a 30/30 sleeve to a shotshell of really anything close, since its shot it would prolly work. now you guys reading this are thinking man this is oddball stuff,, and your right but [beeep] it im bored!!

since your going to develop a load and not picking something off the shelf, I would go with a cast bullet and reduced load, lead bullet can handle up to 1500 +,- FPS, wont expand, 30 caliber is like 1.5 the size of 22 rimfire.

On the theme of reduced loads, I developed one for the 30-30 using these:

on top of 8 grains of Unique. I think they go about 1400 fps iirc, can't remember for sure except they were supersonic. When I went lower accuracy fell apart. This load was really accurate at the ranges I would use them at. But I've never shot any game with one yet.

This little bullet even has a crimp groove. Works great in my Marlin.
