.30 Carbine

Anyone else out there enjoy the big-little 30 carbine round?

I'm inviting anyone else here to share/talk about their fav. load for this fun ammo.
I've had ok results on the target with 13.5gr of Win 296 pushing a 110 ball ammo. I have also had good-ok results pushing a Sirria 110gr jacketed holopoint for hunting.

I'm just looking to see if anyone else loves and enjoys this round and the little M1 Carbine.

Sorry, can't say that I enjoy them. My friend has one and I've shot it and don't care for 'em. I'd rather shoot a 10/22. I can still afford to shoot it after the smoke clears, and it's just about as accurate and just a little smaller slug at a little less FPS when compared to the ol' Carbine... just my 2cents' worth, though.

I started my reloading obsession with the .30 carbine. Used a Lee hammer loader and a Ruger blackhawk.I was too young and stupid to wear ear plugs. I suffer the consequences today. That is a loud little round. I have a 43 General Motors M1 carbine. It will be here when I am gone unless it gets stolen. I like to shoot it from time to time, but do not hunt with it. Most of my plinking with it is done with Winchester ball ammo. I am sure it would take a yote as far as I can acccurately shoot the carbine, but I have other rounds I feel more confident with.

Same here. I have a GM Inland Steering Gear Division 30 carbine that I like to plink with occasionally.

Other than a few jackrabbits, I have never used it to hunt with as I have other much better hunting cartridge/rifle combinations for small game, varmints, and predators.

The 30 carbine is a lot of fun, but not much of a hunting round, at least for me. - BCB

I use 15gr. of lil gun power with 110 gr Remington soft point in a Underwood. Great gun, use it for everything, with in 100 yards.

40 years ago I came into 10,000 rounds of 30 carbine ammo. I was able to unload it for 2 cents a round. I was ecstatic to sell it for twice what it was worth at the time. As I recall I paid less than 1/4 cent per round.

The very first gun I ever shot was a little M-1..... I was about 13 and we were visiting the farm of a man who worked with my father. He took us out to a field and let us plink at a groundhog mound.

While I also think that there are better guns/ammo for plinking (10/22) and many better rounds for hunting... I will always have great memories of that day something like 42 years ago!

me!

I love my .30 carbine.I have to admit it as taking alot of groundhogs and wild cats around my house. It is one of my favorits to carry when im out just scouting around.I also have a ruger 40 cal carbine that is alot of fun to shoot.I have a friend reload for my .30 carbine and i was really surprised on how more accurit it is,considering they were made to just shoot chest size targets durring the war. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I miss my old .30 carbine it was my first center fire rifle as a kid and I shot it well into adulthood shot my first deer with it at 114 paces a little 6 point I will never forget.
Hogs I don't think there is a better brush gun for hogs I have killed many many hogs with that gun.For close shooting and fast I almost always managed to get two or three rounds in a hog in a matter of seconds.
My one and only black bear I killed was with the little .30 carbine soaked up 4 rounds before tumbling to the ground.
I could go on and on about the good times I have had with the little rifle it is very capable with in its range and with the right loads.
There are better rifles and better cartridges but, there is no better fun than being in the thick cant see more than 10 yards hog coming your way and the little carbine in your hand.Life just dont get better than that.

I have an Inland Division, with the American Eagle carved in the stock. It is in very good condition, but I've never shot it. I've thought about getting a new one from, I can't remember. Anyway, I'd like to scope it and see how accurate it would be. I always thought it would be an excellent truck gun.

yeah you cant argue the cool factor with these guns my dad carried one when he was in the military
I always thought about building one in 5.7 MMJ (.22Spitfire)
I know of a couple of places that carry barrels chambered for that caliber for the m1
I guess you can almost get .223 rem like # from that cartridge (dont quote me on that)
It would be a load you own for sure
Here a place for brand new ones

I've always had s soft spot for the old m1 carbine. Can't remember how many I've owned, but its been lots. There's lots of better round out there no doubt, but this one is just fun. I dare anybody to go get into a dump full of rats with a carbine and say it isn't fun. Also as a pistol round it's right up there. I get over 1700 FPS out of the 12" taurus, and in the AMT its a blast. Had a ruger once or twice and they always did well.

I love it guys, keep it coming! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

This is the stuff I like to hear about. Plumbrich, that is impressive, A black bear with a little 30 carbine! I would have probably put all 15 in him and changed mag's before looking to see if he dropped yet.

Rem700dbl, you are correct, reloading for it can bring the accuracy of this little war baby up to a high level. I can keep them inside of a 5 inch area at 100 yards with iron sights. Most of that is me wobbling. I'm hoping that when I put my Holosight red dot on I can get that down to under 2 inch. Then I'll be able to play with my reloads even more.

wiguy, Thanks for the link, I've thought about putting up my REAL war baby and getting a remake. I just have not done it yet.

butchloc, I have not gotten one of the pistols yet but I'll have one soon. Hoping it will be my next years purchase just after my carry piece.

Thanks again everyone... I love hearing about everyone's experiences with the 30 carbine. Keep them coming. If anyone reloads for them I would love to talk about different loads/bullets used.
Thanks
