300 Win Mag and Scope Durrability

I have heard that a lot of scopes will not hold up to the recoil of the 300 unless you go with the more expensive lines of scopes. Has anyone actually had a mid range scope ruined by the recoil of these heavier guns or do you think I can get away with the mid ranged Bushnell, Simmons, Etc?

Thanks for the help.

I don't know about the Bushnell or the Simmons, but I have a Leupold VariX 3, 3.5x10-40 mounted on a 300mag and have never had any problems with it. Just remember you get what you pay for, and a trophy animal is just not worth the risk of a problematic cheap scope.

I had a 2-7x32 Simmons blow up on my .338WM and replaced it with a Bushnell 3200 and I'm very happy with it. I have a Burris Fullfield ballistic plex 3-9x40 on my .300WSM and like it also.

Weaver Grand Slam...average price $320'ish
I have them on 7mm and 300WinMag, hold zero and turrets function and are repeatable for windage and elevation.
I have 4-16x and 6-20x.

I've had my Leupold 2.5-8 variable III mounted on my Rem.700 in 300 Win.Mag. for 24 years - fired 1000's of rounds , carried and bounced on boats, atv's, planes and snowmobiles - never had a single problem. You really do get what you pay for.
