.300 Win Mag powder suggestions/bullet weights?

Found a good used Sako 75 Hunter to add to the collection of 75's and it happens to be in .300 WM. Wondering what a good choice of powder to start with without burning up a bunch of components. The twist should be a 1:10 or 1:11 and I plan to use 180 gr protected point Spitzers and 180 gr Nosler BTs and Accubond. I have an 8 lb jug of IMR4831 from a while back as well as H4350, IMR4350, IMR7828 and H4831.

Anyone have a favorite load? I have plenty of CCI200 and CCI250 primers for whatever I need.

If that's 7828ssc it will likely give you the best velocity with those 180's and 7828 generally produces good accuracy but it's a little on the temp sensitive side so be mindful of that.

H4831 is very temp stable and should shoot well for also but It'll probably come in at a little less velocity.

If you have regular non scc 7828 then velocities with H4831 will probably be very comparable.

Of the powders you have, I'd probably try H4831 first.

72.0 gr 4350/Fed 215/165 gr. NP @3037 fps and
72.5 gr 4831SC/210M/200 gr NP @2744 fps worked best for me.

I have long since switched to a 338 WM w/210's so don't recall, but I usually don't push loads to the max, however, usual caveat applies, start low and work up!

I have several custom 300WMs and I'm running heavier high BC stuff as thats where it really shines. I know you don't have it listed but try about 76gr of H1000 and a 208ELDM, 212ELDX or a Berger 215. H1000 is my goto powder for the WM and heavy bullets.

I used two loads with 180g Sierra btsp, 180g noslers with the loads below

71g of IMR 4350- CCI 200- 3100 fps

75.5g of R#22 with fed 215-3100-3200 depending on the bbl

I loved the performance of the Hornady 190g btsp...can't remember the load

Remington Brass

BACK OFF MY LOADS AND WORK UP IN YOUR RIFLE!!!

These rifles shot the best with the bullet .003 off the lands or the very slightest touch.

I would bed the rifle, float the barrel, and have a Gentry Quiet muzzle break installed before I ever pulled the trigger.

75 to 75.5 grs of R22 is a known accuracy load for the 300 WM. If you want to stick with what you have powder wise all you listed are great performers with 300 and you should be able to find accuracy with all them. H4831 is very temperature stable so for use in a wide range of temperatures you might lean to it. Good luck with your load development.
