Looking for a good load on a 300wsm. I will be running 150 to 180 grain bullets. Will be shot out of a savage 14 sporter style no mods on it yet. I have tried h4831, and varget the pattern is pretty open. Just using standard primers. I recently picked up some magnum primers. Just wondering what everyone else runs and how well it works? Thanks in advance.

I have a restocked(did not like the Tupperware) Savage Model 12 in 300 WSM cartridge. This rifle is a pretty good shooter. I have shot bullets from 155 to 180 grain in the rifle. I want to try the Sierra 200's, but I have not tried them yet. I use this rifle as a long distance (out to 600 yards) deer rifle. This rifle is fully capable of 600 yard shots on deer.

I experimented with several powders. And To be honest the rifle shot well with about anything I fed it. However when I switched to H-414 the rifle really perked up. Accuracy was slightly better than the other powders. But as I said all powders shot well. However what I really liked about the H-414 is that I picked up 100fps. That was all I needed to see. I bought a keg of H-414 and am not looking back.

The only problem is my new 22-250 also likes the H-414. So now I need to buy another keg. Tom.

Thats interesting as I have a Browning A-Bolt in 300WSM and it is fussy as to powder and bullet. In 150 grain IMR 4350 and cheap [beeep] remington core loks I can touch each holes. In 165 grain Federal SP with IMR 4350 it will touch holes also. But to get my gun to shoot 180 grain was the biggest challenge I have ever had. I tried five different powders, 6 different bullets, different "coal". Finally found a combination powder Reloader 19 and Nosler Partition that would group. Oh, I also invested in Hornady concentracal and I really believe it helped much. I tried flat backed bullets as well as boat tailed. If my last time to the range would have showed little improvement i was ready to sell the gun. I had put a leupold vx-III on it. I wanted it for Africa, I need some confidence in it now and we'll see. I may move back to the 165 and 150 grain bullets. Not sure yet.

I'm using a Nosler 180gr accubond with RE-19 in my 300 WSM,I'm printing 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards with over 2900 fps muzzle velocity.

Reloader 19 & H4831 have worked about the best for me out of a model 16.

Suprisingly may WSM shooters, myself included, have had better luck with standard rifle primers than magnum. Just something to keep in mind.

Winchester brass
Rem 9 1/2 M primer
68.7 Ramshot hunter
2.221 length measured from ogive SP?
168 Nosler BT
2880 FPS

I suspect my Chrony is slow by several hundred FPS as I get MUCH slower readings on all my loads as the books say.

I was surprised because h4831 usually shoots well in everything I load it into. I would like to pick up some reloader 17. Has anyone tried reloader 17 and the 300 wsm? Thanks for all the input so far. It really has helped.

I use H4831SC in my 300 WSM, with Remington 9 1/2 Primers, Remington Cases, with either 180gr Ballistic Tips or 208gr A-Max. My rifle stacks bullets at 200 yards...not a rifle you can walk into a store and buy though. Custom action, Krieger barrel, HS percisions stock, Weaver T36.
