308 Hornday 150 Gr. SST

Can anyone tell me how this bullet would work as a deer round? I have worked up a load that is shooting .406 to .875 groups at 200 yards with a 308 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif. I am thinking that the Interbond would be a better round but I can’t argue with the groups that I am getting with the SST. I have tried several other bullets (Sierra and Nosler) but haven’t had the groups that I can get with the SST. I am new at reloading and any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Hornady SST Bullet Are Great! It's just a Lead Core Bullet, with A Polymar Tip..A 150 Gr. Will work Fine For Deer..Give Hornady A Call..800-338-3220 or 308-382-1390..Request A 2005 Product Catalog,,Read All About it! I have A 2004 Catalog, List's All Bullet's..Get 1 ...Coyote Wolf/ Colo.They are at hornady.com, too...

I thought the SST was too explosive but after looking at the Hornady website I think CoyoteWolf27 is right on the mark. The SST is NOT their explosive design.

I shot a nice 10 pt this past season with my 308 shooting the 150 SST. I could not have been happier with the results. The bullet in my opinion performs as well as the Nosler BT.

Coyotewolf and Biggog2 I have checked the bullets out on the Horady wed sight and it looks like the Interbond is a thicker jacket than the SST. They advertisement on the Interbond says that it will never never never separate. From what I can tell the SST has a thicker ring below the ogive to help hold it together and keep it from separating. The Interbond cost is about double the SST.

Coyotesmoke, now that is exactly what I wanted to know. How many yards was the shot? What kind of rifle was you using and how good does the SST group for you? Have you had any other luck with it the same bullet? I am wondering if it will fragment at close range due to higher speed. Congratulations on the 10 pointer.

Thanks

My brother killed a bull elk a few years ago with the 165 grn. sst in a 30-06. Worked just fine. Mighty fine bullets.

I read guys saying they blew off the deer's leg with SST...that being saide...Hornady is my favorite bullets and ammo. I am shooting 130 gr SST in my Tikka T3 .270....I have some of the 180gr SST in 30 cal, but I have not loaded any ammo up yet. I like how accurate Hornady's bullets are...and those Vmax really tear up ground hogs and anything else they hit.
